About this deal

Melvin tells Superman that his mother's body was found last week. She had injected herself with a bad batch of heroin but somehow managed to make it into a church for the final moments of her life. The only things in her purse were her I.D. and her photograph, which Melvin used as the picture for her funeral program. Melvin says that he loved his mother, even though she made a lot of bad choices and ultimately, everybody must take responsibility for the choices they had made. He also understands that Superman and his friends are not gods or emperors and Melvin himself has no right to judge or question their actions. Even so, he understands that Superman inspires the people on the streets to believe in hope and to become better than what they are now. Superman asks Melvin if there's something he can do and Melvin gives him Jolene's urn and tells him to bury her in the starlight. Melvin is in a good place right now, he has a job, a fiancée, a home and friends, all because he never stopped believing in his mother's gift of hope. Superman places the urn and the picture in a vessel shaped like his symbol and puts it on the surface of the moon. He asks Jolene for forgiveness and promises to do better. It was very important for me to represent that for Superman. Even though we see him as Superman, he needed a moment where he couldn't just move on from it. With trauma, sometimes we have to look at it, and that's okay. Whether it's societal trauma, whether it's personal trauma, I think sometimes in life, we feel like we have to be happy today. It's great if you can be happy, I wish happiness on everyone every day. But sometimes we have to slow down and go, 'OK, today's not a good day and this is why. Let me deal with that. And let me work my way through it.' It's okay to hurt, you know, that that's a natural human thing.

No matter what kind of collector you are, there are treasures to find in DC’s twenty-year history participating in Free Comic Book Day. But whatever your parameters for a complete collection might be, you have plenty of reasons to clear your schedule on August 14th to celebrate this year’s belated Free Comic Book Day with your local retailer. The other standout story for me was a more imaginative one dealing with a world without color and S uperman being the one to return color to the Earth, knowing that there are pros and cons to colors and the emotions associated with them in our world. To start things off, Academy Award-winning writer of DC Future State: The Next Batman John Ridley joins artist Clayton Henry (Batman/Superman) to tell a story of Clark Kent as he confronts a villain who still haunts him, in a story that shows what Superman can mean to a whole country. Then, Brandon Easton (DC Future State’s “Mister Miracle”) and Steve Lieber (Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen) take readers to the streets of Metropolis to show how one hero can mean so much to an individual in pain. I was wondering how long Batman has been a part of Free Comic Book Day because I have decided I want to try and collect all of his Free Comic Book Day comics. Thank you for being here for the community to answer questions that are on everyone’s mind! The second incarnation of Superman Red and Superman Blue began in a 1998 storyline. [3] While temporarily deprived of the solar energy required to give him powers, Superman had developed energy-based abilities, [4] which eventually forced him to adopt a blue and white containment suit to prevent the energy dispersing. While retaining most of his abilities, he could now also sense different kinds of energy, including the trail of radioactivity from a passing van, bolts of electricity and magnetic tractor beams rather than his original heat vision. He was also able to absorb the radiation, although this was incredibly painful. He also gained the ability to turn his powers "off", though this took time to control as he inadvertently fried a toaster at home. This switch to Clark Kent also left him as vulnerable as a normal human, which was a bit of a surprise to him when he stubbed his toe while answering the phone.

Later that night, Jolene tried to explain what happened. She had been feeling frustrated due to death of Melvin's father and her dismissal from her job, but she does admit that putting drugs into her body was the worst decision she had ever made in her life. She felt like a liar and a hypocrite for becoming a drug addict, but still makes Melvin promise that he will never get near drugs and Melvin agrees. In an epilogue to World's Finest #192-193 from 1970, Clark Kent is anxious when he has to interview a man who tortured him years earlier when he was in a powerless state as Superman. A realistic downer. CBR: You've already been given the opportunity to write Batman and now you've written a Superman story. What kind of mark would you like to leave on these iconic characters you're getting the chance to write? That’s a wrap on our latest batch of featured questions! But the answers don’t stop there, you can follow me to the community where I take questions at all hours of the day, selecting a few to feature in this column each month. No case too big, no case too small. When you need help, just call to ASK… THE QUESTION. Retired Monster: Colonel Koslov, the head of the Secret Police in Lubania became this in the post-Fall of Communism world. When Clark visits him in the modern time of the story, he has become a sucessful businessman and brushes off questions about his actions during the previous regime.A man who has been saved 13 times by Superman over the course of his lifetime, shares how he returned the favor once, and as the news interview progresses he gets one more chance. I enjoyed the art. We saw Clark from infancy through his adult years with his own son visiting the same Kansas diner, and alongside the same waitress aging from a young woman to about to retire. A poignant and sweet story that utilized color very effectively. Ultimately, the universe regained its colors, but Lois remembers red and blue as the most human colors of all. Superman still wonders whether or not he made the right choice, but Lois and humanity believe that he did. He gave humanity the gift of the sunrise. That brings us to the tale of the two “Electric” Supermen, reenvisioning the Leo Dorfman and Curt Swan concept for the radical nineties. In 1997, Superman found himself with a new emerging set of powers, mainly involving the control and manipulation of electricity. This was further complicated in the Superman Red/Superman Blue one-shot, where Cyborg Superman and Toyman capture the Electric Superman in a cage which has the unintended effect of splitting him in two—a state they remained in for, like, three or four months all told.
