Athena's Fortune is what the games Tall Tales are based off of, as in the book, you find characters such as The Pirate Lord, Briggsy, Graymarrow, and The Gold Hoarder. It takes place before The Pirate lord was dead, and before the 3 were skeleton lords, eventually leading into why they became skeleton lords.

Outside Ramsey and Larinna (and the Pirate Lord and the Gold Hoarder), no character is even in the slightest bit remarkable. Our two heroes don't do much to endear themselves to the reader either. You just sort of root for them because they're the characters in the game. Nothing especially exciting happens either if you've played the game (you'll have seen and experienced more excitement yourself in your first couple sessions). When the chance came to take up my author’s pen once more and dream up the story for a second novel, it seemed sensible to once again focus on the mysteries of days gone by, exploring events that players couldn’t just sail out and experience for themselves. Having already elaborated on the origins of the Gold Hoarder, it was pretty obvious who needed to play the villain this time around… Briggsy does not use her real name; hers is a title given by her profound ability to break into, or out of, anything or anywhere. Hey, I just recently started playing the game for the anniversary update, and I’m loving it so far! I tend to be the kind of geek who obsesses over the continuity and lore of the fictional things I’m a fan of, so I was wondering a few things about the “Expanded Universe” of Sea of Thieves:Long ago, at the height of the Golden Age of Piracy, the infamous pirate Ramsey and his shipmates sacrificed everything to embark on an impossible journey into the Sea of Thieves.

The good news is that Athena's Fortune at least fits with what established story there is in the game reasonably well. Alternating chapters between the perspectives of Ramsey and Larinna, characters players could potentially be familiar with, we get to learn the tale of Ramsey's founding of Athena's Fortune and the early history of the Sea of Thieves. We also get Larinna's perspective as a new denizen of the Sea of Thieves with an arc more reminiscent of what players experience. Sea of Thieves has been one of my most-played games of the past few years, and my favorite aspects of the game have always been the lore and world, so I was excited to read this and learn more about a few characters I was already in love with from the game, Ramsey and Larinna. I think having the story alternate between their perspectives was really clever, especially since the stories weren't exactly linear.The themes of this book are very telling and are relevant to this day such as freedom from tyranny and redemption The easiest way to find this journal is likely to go to the top of the North spire. Staying on that North spire, make your spiraling way downward into the caves. You only need to go down one level.
