And just when I thought Riley’s books couldn’t get any better, this one comes along! I was somehow under the impression that Riley had only written one mystery novel but to me this was more exciting and suspenseful than The Murders at Fleat House! I can already tell this is a story I will remember for a long time.

I appreciate how dirty and smelly Stuart London would have been but the number of times bodily waste, human and otherwise, is mentioned seems ridiculous. Was the author responding to a challenge to have the most references to excrement and vomit in any one book? Joanna Haslam is a young journalist, and she is assigned to cover the actor’s funeral. Many famous celebrities will be there, and she can’t miss this moment. But something else captures her attention. An old woman, that shares a secret letter Harrison left behind, which needs to keep a secret forever. Despite my reservations regarding the choppy nature of the narrative at times, I did enjoy this read, although not to the same extent as other titles I have read by Riley. The Butterfly Room remains a clear favourite. tikrai kitokia, nei "Seserys". Yra ir lengvas trilerio prieskonis, tačiau šį kartą apsieita be šokinėjimo tarp dviejų laiko linijų. ⠀This fifth installment in the series reads as a stand-alone. With skillful writing, you can easily follow the characters, which drive this story to the culminating end. Judi added: "She scrunches her fingers around before upgrading the clasp to one with meshed fingers. This is more intimate and more binding than a normal handclasp. Joanna Haslam is an ambitious young journalist assigned to cover the legendary actor's funeral. The great and the good of the celebrity world are there. UPDATE: I'm only giving this a 9.5 rating as I badly want season 2 for this drama. This drama ended with 14% for the last episode (such an achievement for KBS because it has been long (2018) since they achieved a double digit rating in Mon-tues drama timeslot. Too bad many viewers are sleeping on this masterpiece. It deserves recognition and hype too.

As we roam from the court of Charles II to Paris and the Kent coast there are plots and intrigues in abundance. DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Waitomo District Library for the loan of the audiobook The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.Meanwhile, Cat has been commissioned by Lord Arlington to design a poultry house for the king’s sister Minette (who is married to the Duc d’Orléans, brother of Louis XIV), and is asked to travel to France with the plans and to have a scale model built to take with her as well. Once arrived in France however, she can’t help wondering if there is some other reason for her presence there – and whether the interest Van Riebeek had shown in her before her departure, had been genuine. I've been wanting to read Lucinda Riley for a while now after seeing my blogger friends praise her Seven Sisters series, and I am so glad that I took the plunge. Lucinda is magician with words!

It was interesting to see Lucinda Riley take on quite a different format with The Love Letter. There is much more of an emphasis on action, thrills, adventure, espionage and deceit. It marks a different direction for Lucinda Riley and I enjoyed it very much. Who would have thought that the contents of a letter written seventy years ago would be so explosive! Lucinda Riley lets us know. And the ending? Well, it was tied up neatly, but for me it was just a touch too unbelievable ! Set toward the end of the Joseon era, Sung Yi Gyum places first in the state examination, landing him a position at Hongmungwan in the Administration and Research Department. Despite his recent success, he has no life goals, nor the ambition to realize them, if he did! A 2.5 ). Taylor continues to bring the 17th century to life through his vivid detail and historical research, successfully bringing together factual and fictional characters. The last 2 books in this series have failed to grab me though and, as I began to suspect in ‘The last Protector’, the formula that worked so well now feels it has lost its edge and become rather tired. I’m not sure my description does this excellent book credit, but it’s as equally enjoyable as the others in this first-class series. The author is very good at evoking the life, smells, squalor, and general atmosphere of the 17th century and in Cat and Marwood he has two excellent characters. Both are often subject to the whims of their class betters but through resourcefulness and determination are able to overcome great challenges. Our liability is limited and excluded to the maximum extent permitted under applicable law. We will The story line, in my opinion, was faultless. It had so many twists and turns and around the half way mark it becomes a very fast-paced read! There was (LOTS!!) danger and mystery but also a lot of love in many forms. It was the perfect balance and such a unique story, as all of Riley’s books are! But Joanna stumbles on something dark beneath the glamour: the mention of a letter James Harrison has left behind, the contents of which others have been desperate to conceal for over 70 years.
