About this deal

Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. The second half of the movie is interesting inasmuch as watching any real-life genius go bananas is interesting. But the extreme compression of time (plus the fact that none of the actors age) eventually becomes laughable. Then there’s the most cringeworthy end card since The Imitation Game’s “today we call them computers”. Barring a few time jumps, our story begins as Jerry Salinger (Nicholas Hoult) enters the Columbia University creative writing class of the Story magazine editor Whit Burnett, a droll-as-hell Kevin Spacey, whose theatrical lectures are, quite frankly, more succinct and penetrating than any college class I ever took. Under Burnett’s tutelage, Salinger learns to reel in his clever voice for the sake of narrative, finding a harmony that (as most 20th-century readers would agree) made him one of the greatest American writers. The Rebel brand of bourbon whiskey, formerly known as Rebel Yell bourbon, was acquired in 1999 by the David Sherman Corporation, which was rebranded as Luxco in 2006. Lux Row Distillers is owned by Luxco, which was founded in 1958 by the Lux Family in St. Louis, Missouri. Luxco is a producer, supplier, importer, and bottler of alcohol beverage products.

Rebel’s“ main strength is not its historical accuracy, nor well-balanced story about the great man’s life, nor going deep as its hero aspired to, but a fact that the writer-director Danny Strong bets on one strength and goes happily all in on it. Dramatizing the creative process, particularly that of a writer, is never easy to do on film. Strong’s concept, as much as I could understand it, is that Salinger’s youthful attitude ended up mirroring the startling rebelliousness of his most famous character, Holden Caulfield. That’s as close as Strong gets to showing how Salinger drew inspiration from the world around him, though there’s very little mention of any of his other works, particularly his short stories about the Glass family, beyond their titles. The glamored-up remix of the life of J.D. Salinger, famously reclusive American author who gave the world „Catcher in the Rye“ and, er, other writings.

Fleming, Mike Jr. (January 19, 2016). "Kevin Spacey Joins Nicholas Hoult In Danny Strong's J.D. Salinger Drama". Deadline . Retrieved January 20, 2016. The friend in this scene is Story magazine editor Whit Burnett, Salinger’s former writing teacher as well as the first person to publish the author’s work. Hoult’s lingering glance at Burnett poignantly affirms that this man was as close to a father figure as any Salinger ever encountered, certainly much more so than his maddeningly aloof old man. If “Rebel in the Rye” has any advantage over Roach’s equally flawed Oscar bait, “ Trumbo,” it’s the pitch-perfect casting of its ensemble headlined by Kevin Spacey as Burnett. For the second time this year, the actor has injected a weirdly paternal warmth into an initially formidable authority figure. Latest Rebel brand-family variant elevates the proof – and taste – following in the footsteps of its bourbon namesake Principal photography on the film began on April 26, 2016 in New York City. Nicholas Hoult is watchable and does a reasonably good job in the role. He may not have been the first person one would think of since he is an English actor and quite different looking from the real person. Would have thought they would have chosen an actor with Jewish heritage.Salinger is played by Nicholas Hoult, one of my favorite young-ish actors who can’t quite reach ****. He’s a fine actor, and has lots of screen charm but hasn't found his real breakthrough yet. At least in my opinion. Calling himself Jerry, he enrolls in a class taught by Whit Burnett (the editor of Story, played with relish by Kevin Spacey). Before the first class has even really begun, Salinger is sassing his prof, who responds with a withering dismissal of the essay Salinger wrote when applying to the program. Naturally, the two become fast friends, meeting frequently in Greenwich Village’s Caffe Reggio to discuss the writer’s life. Burnett tells Salinger to turn Caulfield’s story into a novel, and he does. Nihilananda tells Salinger to remove the distraction of the city from his life, and he does. Olding approves of Salinger’s dream to write for himself rather than for his rabid fans, and the rest is history. Each of these motives are spelled out in all-too-tidy a fashion, while the more intriguing material is overlooked. We meet the high school student whose betrayal of the author is routinely blamed for his subsequent seclusion, but we never get to see what a Salinger-led youth group looks like. Also missing is a satisfactory reason for why he cruelly shut Burnett out of his life for so many years, other than pure pigheadedness. This is a glaring omission since Spacey and Hoult’s scenes together form the heart of the picture, especially when contrasted with any scene pairing Salinger with one of his lovers.
