Emollients are moisturising treatments applied directly to the skin to soothe and hydrate it. They cover the skin with a protective film to trap in moisture. I love the cream; it’s really moisturising without any irritation. My skin felt soothed but not greasy, which is really important when constantly having to reapply products for eczema.

Prescribe an emollient according to the dryness of the skin, and individual preference/tolerance. Soap avoidance and ‘Leave-on’ emollient moisturisers can still be used for treating eczema. These emollients can also be used as a soap substitute. Note - some products are considered less suitable for prescribing due to their excipients being common allergens: Although it’s considered a chronic condition, many people find that they will have periods of clear skin and grow to understand what triggers a flare-up - but sometimes, they can be unexpected. It's especially important to regularly apply an emollient to your hands and face, as they're exposed to the elements more than any other part of your body. You can buy emollients from a pharmacy without a prescription. If the skin condition is severe, talk to a GP, nurse or health visitor, as you may need a stronger treatment.
