To reach the first and second floors you can climb the stairs (674 in total) or take a hydraulic lift which travels diagonally up the tower’s legs.

It was alive with artistic people then and it still is today. The view is amazing – especially at night– with the swarming traffic below that reaches the roundabout from all points of the compass. Head underground to the Paris Sewer Museum in the 7th arrondissement to learn all about the history of waste management in the French capital. The Arc de Triomphe is nowhere near the tallest building in Paris (it’s only about 50 metres high); it’s the location that makes it a favourite viewpoint. It’s located right at the end of the Champs-Élysées captivated by a gigantic roundabout, which forms part of an axis that leads from the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel to la Grande Arche de la Défense.

An exceptional panoramic view

My suggestion is La Coupole, which is a short walk from the tower. The food is good, the service excellent, and the atmosphere totally Paris even with the crowds. Try their lamb curry. Look for me, I’m there often. Don’t rush upstairs to the colonnade yet, because there is so much to see as you walk into the Panthéon. Enjoy the monumental architecture, the paintings, Foucault’s famous pendulum, visit the crypt and pay homage to some of France’s greatest: Voltaire, Rousseau, Dumas, to name a few.
