The Cambria 2 XL is a more economical version of another model from the same company, but this doesn’t mean it performs any differently. The first thing I noticed was how easy the LATCH system made it to install. Once installed, it stayed in place quite well. Your child will always have a comfortable, secure fit with the Diono Monterey XT, thanks to its 11-position headrest and a width that can be adjusted up to 20 inches. It boasts expandable side wings and two recline positions. This makes it easy to dial in a precise, proper fit whenever your child grows, and also makes this model is a good choice for children with larger builds, who might find many other car seats too uncomfortable and restrictive. But there’s no clear winner between these two products, they’re just different beasts. To get the tiny fold, it requires a lot more fiddling and a multi-step adjustment process every time you unfold and set it up. In exchange for weight, the hifold doesn’t have lower anchors and doesn’t feel nearly as sturdy. What’s the worst part of family road trips? For us, it’s complaining. Our kids have done some seriously long drives, but even they have their limits. One of my top jobs for ensuring smooth travels is to make sure the kids are physically comfortable if I’m going to ask them to sit tight for 6 or 8 hours.

Fortunately the Diono Monterey 5iST should fit in the overhead bin on many planes (at least in the US and Canada). The folded size is 17″ x 8″ x 23.5″. As you can see, it’s about the same size as my carry-on suitcase so it should go in the proper way. Diono filed an original noncompliance report dated June 22, 2022, and later amended it on August 10, 2022, pursuant to 49 CFR part 573, The biggest downside of the Viaggio Shuttle 120 is the price. Granted it’ll last you for many years, but it doesn’t come cheap.

The car seat has ISOFIX connectors which help with the safety and performance of the car seat. We have always used car seats with ISOFIX attachments as in our opinion, it limits the risk of any of our children being injured in a collision. I find it easier to move the Cambria 2 between cars than the 4DXT because it’s not nearly as bulky or heavy. You may want to keep that in mind if you’ll need to move it around a lot. Both booster seats can hold a child’s weight between 40 – 120 lbs, comes with a LATCH system and a side impact protection feature.

If the child’s height is not quite enough to use with an adult seatbelt, the booster can raise and place the child in such a way that his/her lap and shoulder belt could be properly positioned across the body. In case there is an accident, the seatbelt will keep the child safe in place. The Graco Affix was crash tested to meet or exceed the standards and requirements for car seats. It comes with lower LATCH anchor straps which help keep the booster in place when no one is using it. In fact, the Affix is pretty similar to the TurboBooster LX which was discussed above but it still has some differences. For daily use my kids find the Diono Monterey 5iST to be very comfortable. My kids are spoiled by our fleet over extremely comfortable booster seats but they’re happy to ride in this one. It is a subjective matter, as some kids prefer a firmer ride or a squishier ride and different kids have different arm rest preferences.

While a convertible seat has several installation options to keep the child safe and sound while riding, a booster is a simple seat that uses a seatbelt to restrain the child and keep him/her in place. The lower limit of most boosters is somewhat between 30-40 pounds, while the upper limit may reach 100 pounds and the height of 5 feet. However, if you see that your child meets the minimum requirements to be transferred into a booster car seat, it doesn’t mean you should do it asap. To make sure the ride is safe, the child has to fit the booster properly without leaning over or slouching.
