About this deal

As an outcast, Jar Jar spends much of his time in the Naboo swampland. It’s there that the hapless Gungan encounters a pair of Jedi as they elude enemy forces. When Grogu is fleeing from murderous clone troopers in the most recent episode of The Mandalorian, a door opens to reveal his savior: Kelleran Beq, once again portrayed by Best, marking the character’s first Star Wars appearance outside of the game show. Praise for Best’s Return in The Mandalorian Jar Jar Binks is a supporting character in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, once again voiced by Best, although Phil LaMarr voiced the character in three season one episodes under the pseudonym BJ Hughes. In this series, he is a Senate representative who sometimes accompanies the main characters—Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padmé, and Anakin's padawan Ahsoka Tano—on their adventures. He and Jedi Master Mace Windu are the two main characters of the two-part episode "The Disappeared" in which they had to search for missing elders and rescue a queen, who was Jar Jar's past love interest. The result of all that cutting-edge CGI was Jar Jar, perhaps one of the most infamous characters in 90s cinema – if not all time. A face once considered likable enough to put on the cover of Rolling Stone, Jar Jar wound up as the target for Star Wars‘ fans distilled rage. The anger wasn’t confined to Star Wars message boards, either; critics commonly singled the clumsy, motor-mouthed Jar Jar out for their most stinging barbs. More darkly, some writers suggested that Binks was a racist caricature – something Lucas vehemently denied.

Binks is a Lego mini-figure in the Lego Star Wars video games, and appears as an Angry Bird with a hook move called "Jar Jar Wings" in Angry Birds Star Wars II. Ahmed Best was signed on to portray Binks in the show Star Wars Detours. a treasure mappen! To a sobig powerful Gungan relic? Will you be helpin me find it?" ―Jar Jar Binks to Queen Padmé Amidala [9] Ahmed Best, the man behind the Gungan, revealed there was a deleted scene in Revenge of the Sith between Palpatine and Jar Jar.Phil LaMarr (three episodes of The Clone Wars, Lego: The Padawan Menace, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga) The evidence lies in Jar Jar’s unusual ability to dodge death, his influence on other characters, and his successful infiltration of the Senate. Is Jar Jar Binks a Sith Lord? 13 Theories Binks met with the queen, but she was kidnapped during the meeting. In response, the remaining Dagoyan Masters convened the Bahk-tov Council, where High Seneschal Peteen informed them of a prophecy that if the queen was not found within three rotations, she would be gone forever, and an era of darkness would descend on the galaxy. Binks and Windu also learned from another Council member named Savatte that the prophecy originated from the malevolent Frangawl Cult, whose shrine to the demon Malmourral was underneath the Dagoyan temple. While exploring the catacombs below the temple, Binks was captured by a Frangawl cultist, who blew a glowing powder into his face which temporarily made him invisible. [24]

Later, Representative Binks accompanied Senator Amidala and C-3PO on a mission to Rodia to ensure the planet's allegiance to the Republic. Senator Amidala was a close friend of the Rodian Senator Onaconda Farr, whom she referred to affectionately as "Uncle Ono." However, Farr had already made a deal with the Separatist leader Nute Gunray, who offered to deliver food supplies to Rodia in return for securing the planet's allegiance. Amidala was promptly taken prisoner by Gunray, who wanted to execute her. [15] Behind all the jokes and fan hatred, it’s worth sparing a thought for the man behind Jar Jar, Ahmed Best. It’s evident from interviews – including this one from Rolling Stone– that his love of Star Wars was genuine, and that he was more than excited to have a chance to make his mark in its universe. Instead, the character he helped bring to the screen became a “lightning rod,” as he later described it, for the film as a whole. Best puts a brave face on his memories from the late 90s, but the public reaction must have been difficult to absorb. So here he was, this kid I think had hoped that this was going to be something that transformed his life in a really great way. Who wouldn’t think that? It’s an opportunity to work on a Star Wars movie. But…but Padmé…hesa our friend. " ―Padmé Amidala and Jar Jar Binks, on trading Grievous for Anakin Skywalker [3]

Jar Jar Binks first appears in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace as a bumbling, foolish Gungan from the planet Naboo who is banished by his tribe as punishment for his clumsiness. He is nearly killed by a Trade Federation transport, only to be saved at the last minute by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn ( Liam Neeson). Qui-Gon and his padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi ( Ewan McGregor), persuade Jar Jar's tribe to release him to their custody as a guide. He later goes with the Jedi and Padmé Amidala ( Natalie Portman) to the planet Tatooine, where he meets and befriends nine-year-old slave Anakin Skywalker ( Jake Lloyd). Binks attended the funeral of Padmé Amidala, who died following the Clone Wars and the rise of the Galactic Empire. They were captured by several Separatist battle droids led by a Faust scientist named Nuvo Vindi. He revealed that the Separatists had a secret laboratory on Naboo and that he had been developing an airborne version of the deadly Blue Shadow Virus. Binks and his companions were later rescued by the Jedi Obi-Wan, Skywalker, and his new Padawan Ahsoka Tano, who overpowered Dr. Vindi and his droids. During the struggle, Binks and Amidala stopped one of Dr. Vindi's droids from escaping into Naboo, thus containing the Blue Shadow Virus within his secret bunker. But Lucas remained insistent: kids would love Jar Jar. Best was 25 when he first portrayed Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace (1999), the first entry in the Star Wars prequel trilogy directed by George Lucas. Best delivered both the voice and the stop-motion performance of the computer-generated character, wearing prosthetics during filming that were later replaced by CGI animation.
