About this deal

You don’t just pull the trigger to start popping darts, though. There’s a secondary trigger you have to hold in with your middle finger, which gets the motor spinning up – then you can squeeze the main trigger to set the foam a-flying. Launch into epic battles with NERF Blasters! Choose your blaster and get ready to fire with Nerf’s aerodynamic foam darts.

Style: this blaster is really stylish. It also is quite intimidating for anyone looking at the barrel. Looks cool! Where the Mastodon does excel is that its Mega darts offer a very flat initial trajectory when firing parallel to the ground. This means you can get an excellent range of about 40-50 feet without having to aim high and let the darts arc down. Nerf Gelfire Pro– High-performance blasters with hydro-gel rounds which burst on impact. Suitable for 14+. NERF COLLABORATIONS: With that covered, let's move on to the pros and cons. Yep, it actually has cons. I just am saying that it's relatively easy to avoid jamming the HyperFire. The drum has not given me any trouble pushing the darts up while firing, which is absolutely amazing, considering the hyper rate of fire, when you don't jam it. That's right. When YOU don't jam it. Assume that it's your fault first. You didn't use it properly. Try to find a solution. Look inside. Figure it out. Then either do better next time, or it's all Nerf's fault. Only then, I say, is a bad review warranted.

Firepower: five darts a second doesn't sound overly unrealistic if you compare it with all of Nerf's other unreasonable claims. Can jam if used incorrectly: I think we covered this. To start firing, press flywheel and wait a second before triggering, to stop, let go of trigger, wait a second, then let go of flywheel.

And woah! This thing is super-fun. The Elite darts ping out at a steady pace, with a decent amount of accuracy. I managed a spread of around 20 inches at 20ft from fresh batteries. Distance is quite impressive and plenty good enough for an ammo-sprayer like this. It did manage the claimed 27m range, but with wild inconstency and with no accuracy whatsoever out to that distance.Loading the magazine is done in the usual NERF manner of, well, just pushing each dart into the top of the mag in the right direction (as indicated by an arrow on the side). Once that’s done and the batteries are in place, all you need to do is slap the magazine into the slot in the underside of the gun and you’re ready for rapid fire. This thing is big… Seriously, photos don’t really do it justice. Pulling it out of the box, the main part of the gun is already in one (huge) piece. However, the Mastodon does require more assembly – probably by an adult – than any other NERF blaster I can recall. Just behind the accessory rail is a hatch secured with a slide catch, which is for dealing with potential jams. The hatch doesn’t open too wide, however, so it’s not as helpful as it could be. Thankfully I haven’t had many jams. Hold down the flywheel for a bit before pressing the trigger. To stop firing when there are still darts in the drum, you should NOT release the flywheel and the trigger at the same time. Nope. You should release the trigger first, then wait a second, and release the flywheel.

As an intimidating heavy assault weapon, the Mastodon is in a league of its own. It’s big, hard-hitting, rapid-firing and a whole heap of fun. Sure, it isn’t super-long-ranged, but the flat-ish trajectory out to medium distances more than makes up for that. And did I mention that it’s fun? The mechanics are both an advantage and a disadvantage. It has the conveyor-belt-on-the-jam-door dart feeder system (this might have been the first blaster to do that?). Depending on who you ask, this is great or terrible. I think it is great. I think it feeds worn darts more reliably. Also, if you are keen on arduino, it's not hard to make it a select fire without installing a whole kit. Unfortunately, it means you need three motors if you're doing an upgrade. As well, it means that motor's power is transmitted through plastic gears. This is hasbro, and the gears are good quality, but still. If you want more durability some third party's make cast metal gears. Just keep in mind, these gears are significantly heavier and will slow the rate-of-fire. So, when you let the flywheel spin for a second, then press the trigger, the flywheel is hopefully going to be actually SPINNING, and the dart is going to be like, 'I'm getting the hell out of here!' When you STOP firing, if you release both the flywheel trigger and the actual shooting trigger at the same time, the flywheel is going to stop, but the conveyor belt that pushes the darts FROM the drum magazine thingy TO the flywheel that moves when you press the trigger is going to be like, 'just shoot one more dart? Please? Just one?'This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. Launched in 2003, the products in the Nerf N-Strike series are among the most notable Nerf Blasters. These Blasters fire foam darts with rubber tips up to a range of 35 feet. This series is designed to resemble real-life munitions and offers customizable attachments, including scopes, shields, and barrel extensions. This series was replaced by the Nerf N-Strike Elite line in 2012, which upgraded to a direct plunger firing mechanism that launches darts up to 75 feet. Nerf launched the Rebelle series in 2013, which includes colors and designs marketed towards girls. In 2019, Nerf introduced the Alpha Strike series, which is a budget friendly Blaster. That same year, the Nerf Ultra was released and is claimed to fire ammo up to a range of 120 feet.

Why??? Ahhhhhhh!!! Maybe it was better when it was jamming! A junk Nerf gun jamming is at least something I can understand! Nerf Fortnite– Battle Royal-inspired blasters suitable for 3 years to 14+. Read product descriptions for more on age suitability. One other slight downside to this battery-powered blaster is the whirr of the motor and flywheel. If you’re trying to be at all stealthy, that goes out the window when you spin the Hyperfire up – your foe may have a split second’s warning before the darts rain down. Not that it’s terribly noisy; it’s just not silent. I found it easiest to ditch the shoulder strap and hold the Mastodon a little in front of me to get a better aim – at waist level, though, since this isn’t a blaster you’ll be getting up to your cheek for sighting. My son, however, needs the shoulder strap to carry the Mastodon for any length of time, which means he can’t hold it as far in front of him as I do. Speaking of the motordrive, its activation button is in the shape of a secondary trigger below the firing trigger, just as it is on the Elite HyperFire, the Elite Stryfe and other flywheel-powered NERFs. You use your middle finger to rev up the motor and your index finger to set the darts firing.

NERF Elite Hyperfire – Performance

Nerf Guns, or Nerf Blasters, are toy dart gun products owned by Hasbro that fire ammunition such as darts, discs, or balls constructed from foam. The first Nerf Blaster, the Nerf Blast-A-Ball, was released in 1989. Need D batteries (not included): this is a small con; D batteries are cheap and and it's more than worth it for all that firepower. The motordrive does spoil the party a little, however, with that diet of six D cells. Not only are they expensive, but they’re not the type of batteries that you’re likely to have just lying around in a drawer – especially not six of them. Loading up with ammo is as simple as pushing the Mega darts into the open front of the cylinder, turning the cylinder by hand when necessary. If you’re into NERF warfare of the less subtle persuasion, the Hyperfire is a suitably unsubtle beast that offers a ton of fun. It spits out foam darts faster than any NERF blaster before it, and is a joy to handle.
