The leather muzzle straps are designed to break away for safety purposes. We also recommend using a breakaway halter with your muzzle for additional safety. The correct orientation of the GreenGuard muzzle is 3 slots to the front and 5 slots to each side. The front of the muzzle has a "greenguard" logo. Note that the muzzle is not symmetrical; if the muzzle is fitted sideways, your horse may not be able to fully open their mouth. NEW! If you are concerned about tooth wear, GreenGuard has introduced optional muzzle inserts which can help reduce tooth wear. Tips for successfully using a grazing muzzle

Adjust the straps so that the bottom of the GreenGuard muzzle is parallel to the ground when your horse is grazing. Pressure points on the horses nose can impact their air intake, so the square rigid design of the Greenguard grazing muzzle allows a lot of room across the nostril of the horse. Whilst using our grazing muzzle, we have made a few minor adjustments to ensure comfort and safety for our horse / pony.
