A new fantasy film. Based on the role playing game 'Dungeons and Dragons'. Which is not a board game per se. It's been around for a long time, but on the offchance you don't know anything about it, it involves players playing characters in a fantasy world setting on quests. Through dungeons searching for treasure and fighting monsters along the way. When principal photography finished, the release date was planned at the earliest to be August 2000, which would coincide with the publication of the third edition of the game, or Halloween 2000 at the latest if post-production went on longer than expected. This movie has Hasbro's logo everywhere in the start and end credits, which was odd because their subsidiary, Wizards of the Coast, are supposed to be the current corporate masters of the franchise. Whatever. THIS movie takes place in the Forgotten Realms, and makes liberal use of races, spells, and the campaign settings within the story.

D+D is what the adventure-comedy/fantasy genre needs to take notes from. In a world saturated by superhero films and remakes/retreads of old favorites, this was a breath of fresh air. It was fun, funny, and generally entertaining. The characters made sense, and the funny parts weren't focused on awkward or cringe situations that are totally unnatural, unlike most modern films.
