Dissolve the contents of each Dioralyte sachet in 200ml water. For adults and children over one year of age use fresh drinking water. For oral administration only. Dioralyte should not be reconstituted in diluents other than water. Each Sachet should always be dissolved in 200ml of water. A weaker solution than recommended will not contain the optimal glucose and electrolyte concentration and a stronger solution than recommended may give rise to electrolyte imbalance. If diarrhoea persists for longer than 24-48 hours the patient should be seen by a physician. Dioralyte should not be used for the self treatment of chronic or persistent diarrhoea except under medical supervision. Dioralyte shall not be used for treatment in infants below the age of 24 months without medical supervision. Infants under the age of 2 years with diarrhoea should be seen by a physician as soon as possible. No specific precautions are necessary in the elderly. Children over 1 year: One sachet after each loose stool, you can take up to 5 sachets each day, for up to 3 to 4 days. Immediate release fentanyl* - this does not apply to patients undergoing palliative care treatment and where the recommendation to use this treatment has been made by a multidisciplinary team and/or other healthcare professional with a specialism in palliative care. No specific precautions are necessary in the elderly. However, care should be taken when administering Dioralyte Relief solution in conditions where normal electrolyte balance may be disturbed (such as severe vomiting or diarrhoea).
Adults (including the elderly): One or two sachets after every loose motion. Each sachet should be dissolved in 200ml of water. Travel vaccines (vaccines administered exclusively for the purposes of travel) - cholera, diphtheria/tetanus/polio, hepatitis A, typhoid should still be issued on the NHS. The contents of each sachet should be dissolved in 200ml (approx. 7fl oz) of drinking water. Use fresh drinking water for adults and children. For infants, and where drinking water is unavailable, the water should be freshly boiled and cooled. The solution should be made up immediately before use and may be stored for up 24 hours in a refrigerator, otherwise any solution remaining an hour after reconstitution should be discarded. The solution itself must not be boiled.The researchers themselves were sure, even before they conducted the study, that 2-4 litres of ORS a day which contains 20-40gms of glucose per litre wouldn't cause any problems. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor. Dioralyte Relief contains 2.5 vol % ethanol (alcohol). One dose contains 191 mg of ethanol, which is about the same amount of alcohol as 4 ml of beer or 1.7 ml of wine. This can be harmful to people with a drink problem. Also take this into account if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or giving this to a child, have liver disease or epilepsy. Pharmaceutical products; nutritional supplements; food supplements for medical use; dietary supplements; vitamins; mineral substances for medical use; rehydration products. CCGs have been advised that prescribers in primary care should no longer initiate these treatments for any new patients and be supported in deprescribing these treatments where appropriate.
