About this deal

Another downside is that whilst it has sufficient power in terms of Watts, it's slow compared to many of the other camping stoves featured here at 5 minutes 25 boil time. There have been some complaints with the ignition and worries about leakage. You also have to consider the build quality at the price. Having said that, most of its competitors don't even come with an inbuilt lighter and many in the community swear by this one so it's certainly well worth a look, especially if you're not looking to spend a lot. In the middle of the unit, you'll find a 1500W infrared grill with a grill pan, allowing you to toast/grill food while cooking on the two gas stoves. Our main gripe is with the windshield/lid, which is held in place by one very small catch that slips into a tiny groove. Why they didn’t put one on the other side to make the lid less wobbly, we’ve no idea. It tends to give the cooker an unstable feel.

To avoid running out of gas when camping, some people take two cylinders, but this, of course, increases the cost and makes transport more difficult. How do you know when to get a refill?

Gas Camping Stoves

Therefore if you want a sensibly sized gas cylinder for camping that lasts the longest (and you're not going to Europe), then the Calor 4.5kg will last the longest. Which is the cheapest gas cylinder for camping? When you've run out of gas, you exchange your gas cylinder for a refill, which should be the cost of the gas. If you're looking at buying gas cylinders in the UK, you'll notice some are blue (butane) and some a red (propane). But what's the difference between butane and propane? The amount of gas most people use when camping can easily be accommodated with smaller gas cylinders, so aim to get a cylinder less than 15kg (and a 15kg cylinder is still a big cylinder for camping).

Other gas cylinders are available, and other sizes, but the above gas cylinders are recommended for family camping and are the easiest to get refills. The MSR Whisperlite International has been a firm favourite in outdoor circles as one of the best camping stoves due to its reliability, ease of use/repair/and cleaning, adaptability (burning white gas, kerosene, and petrol), size, and durability. What is the best single burner camping stove?

Plus, propane cylinders are heavier, making butane easier to transport when you have lots of camping gear. Each cylinder holds a different amount of gas, and each regulator has a flow rate, so assuming you burn the gas on full flow, the following table gives a rough guide - but note that is artificial for comparison only. product/helpAdviseTab.hbs -->
