Benefit: Reduces clamminess and chilling effect associated with active exertion, to maintain user comfort. RET is the resistance to evaporative heat loss meaning the lower the number the more breathable a fabric is. During the test a fabric is placed on a ‘sweating guarded hot plate’ (a porous hot plate with water channelled through it) and the required energy to keep this plate at a constant temperature is measured in m²Pa/W (area[m²] Pressure[Pa] / energy[W]) AT Optic - Combine the thermal insulation and pill resistance of a good mid-weight fleece fabric but with a unique look to ensure they look as good as they perform.

This simple and light approach makes the sized systems ideal for more rugged environments and longer duration trips where resupply is difficult and where you are likely to be carrying heavy loads perhaps in excess of 20kg. As the fabric in question is Gore-Tex Pro we can only provide data using RET as this is the standard test Gore-Tex use for their fabrics (Gore may be able to supply more data). PLEASE NOTE - The bag shown in the photos is a representative one in the range of three we supply and so what you receive will not match exactly what is shown. The waterproof coating acts as a shield towards wet weather, and allows the water to simply bead off the garment. If this waterproof coating has faded away over time, the water that gets on to the garment will not bead off as easily and will build up. This means that there is an extra coating of water on the outside of the garment, which inhibits the breathability and does not allow warm air and condensation on the inside of the garment to escape. This can result in what appears to be a leaking product, when in fact the build up of moisture on the inside is warm air and condensation that cannot escape. Leaking waterproofs. If we can repair issues related to wear and tear then we will, and we’ll do it for free, but a replacement will be off the cards and it’ll likely be time to retire your old faithful piece of kit. There are many different tests for breathability of a fabric. Several test methods will give results in g/m²/24hours whereas RET, which is the standard test used by Gore-Tex, gives results in m²Pa/W. Unfortunately none of these tests correlate with each other and in fact different fabrics types appear to perform better on different tests so they are not interchangeable.
