Just a decade ago, the old-school porn studios signed the most popular entertainers to exclusive contracts and fans followed their favorite female stars by buying the studio’s big release. While those movies are still getting made, no one is waiting around for them to drop. After 15 years as a top porn actress, Angela White’s crowning achievement was showing what happens after sex. Married couples and longterm committed partners working together, or parallel to each other, within the mainstream adult industry are not at all unusual. Neither is off-camera monogamy. Kross says it is “super common,” even a “norm,” within the industry. What makes Kross and Ferrara unique is a combination of the frequency of their work together, their roles on either side of the camera, and the power dynamics in those positions, as well as the degree of their professional success. In many ways, their arrangement reflects the labor of sex work: In the context of porn, Kross doesn’t perceive Ferrara having sex with other women as a threat, because it is contained within a professionally negotiated scene.

This recording, the third in the series of Beethoven piano sonatas, comprises four works from three different periods of the composer’s life. White pulled off “Angela 3” because she’s one of the few industry veterans with enough clout to call the shots. She parlayed her on-screen success into her own production company, which gave her the freedom to write, cast, shoot and edit the film.
