About this deal

Tipping the scales at 9 oz the Torin 5 is nice and light. While not as lean as a racing shoe, the Torin 5 is perfectly in league with shoes within its intended use genre. The Torin 5 is the perfect weight for those everyday runs. Altra even achieves this weight while offering a slightly more cushioned platform. Enhanced heel collar is a nice touch

If you aren’t used to lower or Zero Drop shoes, it’s a good idea to gradually increase the time you spend in the shoes, alternating with your current shoes. This way your feet and lower legs will gradually get stronger without getting over loaded. One of the main differences from past models is that the forefoot, though still foot-shaped, boasts a little more width. Having a nicely secure upper and roomy toe box screams comfort for the long run. Everyone’s gait is slightly different, but there are four main types of running styles and pronation: This is a max cushion neutral shoe, which is Altra’s most cushioned road shoe. The Altra Duo was a big super crazy cushioned shoe and very comfortable. It looked like a true big boy over there on our wall. Now that shoe is out of the lineup; the Torin is now the biggest max cushion shoe you can get from Altra. this is going to be your friend for all your long kind of stuff. What I liked in the Update

The Bad

In Summary the Altra Torin 5 is an everyday training shoe that would be very well suited to newer runners getting into Zero Drop and rounded toe box running shoes seeking a shoe for comfortable regular runs and longer slower-paced or recovery runs for the more experienced runner. The Zero Drop and broad rounded toe box are a huge benefit and I strongly believe giving your feet the room to function is important in reducing the chance of injuries and allows your feet and lower legs to get stronger the more you run.

Once I got used to the softer ride of the shoes the Torin 5 became my go to shoe for my easy runs, recovery runs and longer road runs! As mentioned previously they have a slipper like feel, which is like the Altra Lone Peak, which I really enjoy. Alright, I have to be honest. I have a soft spot for a little extra cushion in my running shoes. Don´t get me wrong, I love my slimmed down, 7oz, no-nonsense racing flats, but when it comes to pounding the pavement to get my daily miles in, I really enjoy the cushion. The Torin 5 strikes a nice balance between soft and responsive in their Altra EGO MAX sole.Altra shoes are built to be gender specific. This means that the last shape of the women’s shoes is designed to fit the natural differences in women’s feet. They aren’t just men’s shoes in smaller sizes and ‘girly’ colours! My wife is also a Torin 5 fan and it’s her shoe pictured! The soft mesh upper of the Torin 5 is one of the most breathable and comfortable that I’ve come across. A padded heel collar and thin tongue round out the fit of an excellent upper. By the way, it’s not too good to be true as the upper is very secure, hugging your foot with that airy mesh. We have been fitting mostly true to size. Some customers depending on what they have going on with fit have had to go up. It’s not many though STEF : Altra continues to deliver with their ever-popular neutral, cushion road shoe. The Torin 5 is an extremely versatile, do-it-all shoe with a lightweight and responsive design. The midsole is fun and functional. Altra swapped out their Quantic midsole material for the new EgoMax foam. It’s soft and squishy, yet maintains the responsiveness to go fast. I’m not sure how or why this is possible, but I’m a big fan.

This shoe is a solid daily trainer. Easy miles, tempo runs, long runs, recovery. You name it, the Torin 5 is up for it. It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store? Try a wet foot test I hope you are doing well. The Altra Torin 5 has many differences in comparison to the New Balance 840. Some main points of difference is that the Torin has a foot-shape fit. The Torin's midsole cushion is on a balanced level. That means there is no difference in elevation from the heel to toe. The New Balance 840 is an 8mm difference from the heel to the toe angle. The New Balance 840 have more of a straight last where the Torin has a semi curved last. This week is the much-requested Altra Torin 5 review. The Torin is Altra’s everyday training shoe for the neutral runner. Like all Altra shoes the Torin is Zero Drop with a rounded toe box and is built on one of three lasts (foot shape form used in production). There are different amounts of volume and different widths. The Torin fits into the middle last, which is call ‘standard’. The toe box is still nice and broad and roughly equivalent to a 2E in other brands, but does have as much width through the midfoot or volume (height) in the toe box as shoes made on Altra’s ‘original’ roomiest last.TAYLOR: This shoe runs small, and I mean SMALL. My normal 10.5 was so short, I feel that I could’ve gone a full size up easily. At the very least, be sure to go up half a size. What’s in store this time around? Well, I have a feeling fans of the new Altra Rivera will love this one, as they’re very similar shoes.

Topo Phantom 2: These have a similar broad rounded toe box but are 5mm from heel to forefoot. They are stiffer through the midfoot and more fitted at the heel. So, they don’t allow quite as much foot function as the Torin 5. Here is a link to our review: I have to begin by saying that the Torin 5 was so comfortable that I sometimes forgot that I was wearing a running shoe. The supple sidewall construction really needs no adaptation period. The wonderful aeration of the upper material and the great cushion of the sole only adds to that comfort.

Anatomy of a Shoe

During gait analysis you will be asked to walk and run on our in-store treadmill whilst your movements are recorded using the latest Daftfish software. A slow-motion, detailed analysis will show and explain your biomechanics, specifically looking at pronation, the inward-turning movement that occurs when your foot touches the ground. During walking and running this acts as cushioning for the body. The cushioning of the Torin 5 feels slightly less plush to me compared to previous versions, but I think they just need a bit of a break-in period. Gait analysis monitors your body’s movement and your feet (sports biomechanics) whilst running. It’s commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify movement related problems for people with injuries who are seeking new running shoes. Hello, this could be because they are now offering the Torin 5’s in wides. They had to size grade the shoe so the wide wasn’t soooo wide. Hopefully that makes sense Have you thought about using some blister shield roll on to help with rubbing on baby toe? Altra def knows about the tongue on this shoe. It was a miss and is not as comfortable as the 4. The 4 was magic and in my opinion one of the best Altra shoes of all time.
