About this deal

One of the biggest advantages of studying with the Minna no Nihongo series is that it covers such a wide range of topics. Genki is the other Japanese language book series that makes every student doubt which one they should go with.

My friend who use Minna for self study can’t even use -te form and don’t understand how to change verb from dictionary form to other forms. dicentra8 Orange Belt Posts: 117 Joined: Fri Sep 28, 2018 5:07 pm Location: Portugal Languages: Portuguese (N), Japanese (JLPT N3), Finnish (beginner), French (beginner) Language Log: https://forum. Overall, the Minna no Nihongo series is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn Japanese. is entirely in Japanese and you require a secondary english translation guide to navigate through it and learn lessons.

I feel like it would be a lot of wasted time, and also a waste of money, since MNN is fairly expensive. And the one for Minna no Nihongo (just like the basic workbook) does things in a gradual manner really well since they use the vocabulary you learned in the chapter and, at the same time, re-use vocabulary you learned from previous chapters. Genki has a LOT of “find a classmate and do this task,” which Minna doesn’t have so much—I think in that respect Minna is better for solo/private lessons study, but they both seem decent to me. As the book has also been made to match the degree of progress of learners using Minna no Nihongo, they can also practice listening to the words and sentence patterns they have just studied.

In that sense, Genki is more adapted to beginners who want to self-study while Minna no Nihongo is more immersive from the start and requires more from the learners. Those workbooks that start from the very beginning and gradually go up are really helpful to train listening.

In this second edition, the vocabulary has been updated accompanied by illustrations that help structure learning. If you’re having trouble understanding the material or doing the exercises, you can do a few things. I will take a look at Cure Dolly’s videos to see if I can study with this style of learning, I know sometimes videos can be a great way to learn but can also be a bad way, in my experience watching videos to learn English helped me a lot when I began learning it but it never worked for Spanish. Zusätzlich hatten wir auch von dem einen Arbeitsheft Übungsblätter ausgedruckt bekommen und auch unsere “Kanjitests”.
