About this deal

Trailers for No Time to Die, Doom Eternal and the Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson vehicle Jungle Cruise also look amazing and, going from one source to another, there’s no visible difference between the presentation from the Netbox and how the same content looks streaming to the native apps on my Samsung TV. The inclusion of YouTube means there’s plenty of subscription-free content alongside the service’s paid-for shows, including its rather excellent Karate Kid spin-off, Cobra Kai.

In recent years, however, Netgem has been focusing on signing contracts with broadband providers, becoming their “TV Offer”. During tests Alexa and the Netbox 4K worked well together, with the box responding accurately to requests, though personally, I’m yet to be convinced that voice control adds much to the TV experience, especially as many interactions – especially routine ones such as changing channel, recording or pausing content – are quicker with the remote control.

It works brilliantly over WiFi so I didn't have to run wires from my router and mess up my skirting boards.

It's also possible to record to a USB using the box, although this isn't comparable to the recording services that we see from major pay TV companies.Extra on Demand: Additional recommendations from paid services, such as Prime Video, BritBox, Rakuten, etc’. In 2020 Freeview Play is everywhere, coming pre-installed on TVs from LG, Panasonic, Philips and Toshiba, amongst others, and on affordable set-top-boxes from Humax, Panasonic and Manhattan. Those extra bits may require an extra separate subscription (such as Prime Video) etc, but it’s all available on one box, which is the good thing. It has everything you need, but the button-setup is a bit confusing, and the navigation buttons in the middle – which are the buttons you would use the most – are just plain bad, because they are too flat – so you’re not always sure whether you actually pressed them or not.

Got it for my sons bedroom as his tv isn’t smart, does not come with Disney plus installed, or Netflix, the remote itself is pants as you really have to press hard on the buttons for it to even work, within 5 mins of having it turned on the small box was extremely hot to touch, batteries that also came with product were dead, I could go on….If you have children, you may want to keep a closer eye on the type of content they are able to access through the service. As well as pausing live TV, you can also record shows to watch later using an external USB stick or hard drive, which is included in the box.

The philosophy of the service is to present content that is relevant to the viewer, either on their personal app or the main television screen. It's something different and it won't be for everyone, but it's worth checking out for many people who want a TV service but don't want to go the full Sky or Virgin Media route. Netgem TV is an award-winning pay TV service that offers Freeview channels alongside premium content, with an emphasis on becoming a central hub for on-demand and other subscription content too. The current basic box has been developed and improved and now includes extra features and free services for streaming purposes as well as free TV and films.

You don’t have to constantly jump between different apps and services to find what to watch – instead, you see recommendations on one screen, and once you choose what to watch – THEN you will be taken to the appropriate app.
