About this deal

It was just too little too late and felt as if the author couldn’t make up his mind what genre he wanted to be writing. David Carrington, brother to Lydia, tracks footprints outside and uncovers a bloody hammer and a suspiciously shaped mound in the waist-high snow. It is a great joy, then, to discover Mystery in White by Joseph Jefferson Farjeon, first published in 1937.

Farjeon displays a great deal of knowledge about story-telling and multiplies the interest of his plot through a terse, telling style and a rigid compression. This is really a very enjoyable mystery novel, with strangers turning up out of nowhere, locked rooms, murder, spooky happenings and even a little romance and humour mixed in. Tras abandonar el tren una nevada los obliga a refugiarse en una casa donde también hay crímenes y misterio. Will all the stranded passenger survive the experience and what about the owner of the house whose food and beds they are making free with? The z Murders is too much of a thriller I think in that the protagonist ends up on a perilous adventure around England because he fancies a woman who is heavily implicated in a murder.Cut off in the snow, with no way of making contact with anyone, the group have to make the best of things – while feeling more than a little uncomfortable about making themselves at home. Our protagonists are a group of strangers who share a compartment on a train and get stuck in a snowstorm just days before Christmas. I am the author of The Pocket Detective, The Pocket Detective 2 and How to Survive a Classic Crime Novel. Mais alors que des feux brûlent dans les cheminées, que le thé est prêt à être servi, nos voyageurs ne trouvent cependant âme qui vive dans les lieux.

Hopelessly lost, they’re reunited when they all take refuge in Valley House, a dwelling where the kettle is boiling and the table hospitably set for tea even though the place is deserted. Instead of keeping everyone snugly in place on the trapped train, he sends them out into the wintry whiteness. He had fully expected to remain on the train, unlike the "lunatics" (as he referred to his fellow passengers). It is worth both the new edition and the praise, although it is for me a mystery whose journey is more engaging than its eventual arrival. The grandson of the American actor Joseph Jefferson, his brothers were Herbert, a dramatist and scholar, and Harry, who became a composer. When the train gets stuck in the huge snowdrifts on the tracks, some of the passengers decide to walk to the next station.
