About this deal

It might be something to think about though I still can't quite work out how it happened in the first place. My exhaust bobbins (poly bushing mounts for exhaust hangers) failed on the way home and my exhaust dragging on the freeway was enough to make me pull over and investigate. I'm guessing it needs another mount in the middle of the car, and probably the rear one replaced, but what parts will this involve, and will simply remounting and clamping up sort it?

These provide that little bit of extra flexibility that stops exhaust installation being such a pain-in-the-neck job.My arches were from Huddersfield too, I got the outer lip trim but nothing for sealing the join between body and arch. Go to a motor factors like Halfords in the UK (or something similar where you are) and they should be able to supply you with some Mini (old classic Mini) exhaust rubber mounts, cheap as chips and similar to Norton stuff apart from a radiused centre. i think you could get an rc40 fitting kit to do the job you want it too, you may have to drill some holes in the centre of the frame to mount the bobbins and the hanging plate - nothign too serious. I checked this before assembling as I wanted to ensure that over the likely range of movement in use the load would be borne by the rubber and not by the bolt "locking" in the holes, which would have imparted large bending loads. or rather, the usual once in a while glance over the whole car showed it to be perishing, so I swopped it.

Actually, the bobbins and the hanger at the front of the rear subframe are ideal for mounting a mini exhaust. The imperial size may have been true at one point but many motor factors now supply these with a metric thread and nuts to suit (certainly Halfords does). If I can, I'd like to source the parts myself, then take it to a specialist and get it fitted, but to do that I need to know exactly how it needs sorted and what bits to get. I used a nyloc nut and inserted the bolt from above so it wouldn't tend to fall out even if the nut came off.

The idea being to replace the rubber bobbin with a set of rubber bushes above, below and between with a solid M8 8. sorry i hadn't heard from you and have sold the kit to a neighbour, although i might have some other bobbins/brackets and hangers that might help you. I know I could get a bracket welded to the silencer extending forward but I think it would look mess and I prefer the clean lines of the system as it is. I was very careful to realign, slot, file, bend, adjust all my mounts to take and stress out of the bobbins as far as possible - ie it looks when installed, nice and straight, not angled between top and bottom, not in shear. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

Moz's comment about rubber products sounds familiar - I changed the steering rack gaiters for boxed and branded QH ones last year and they're already starting to go at the edge. Ok ive found this as well not using the rubber bobbin setup that you have but uses the fixed set up for the rear mount! The holes in both of the brackets were oversized as supplied by enough to allow something like 35-40° (I estimate) movement of the bolt. So on my sample of two - make sure you're not putting the bobbins under unnecessary loading for a good service life.

I checked to make sure that the holes in the exhaust and the chassis bracket are large enough to allow the bolt to pivot through a large angle, ensuring that the load is always on the rubber spacers rather than being a shear load on the bolt.
