To use the strategy PowerPoint example above, it would be checking the grammar, cleaning up awkward wording, adjusting the layout of images and shapes. Mind management involves consciously directing your thoughts, emotions, and mental resources to achieve specific outcomes. oh no - I am trying to copy and paste quotes from the Kobo app which means, of course, it is not working.

Plus, the book pointed out that I need to pay more attention to my mood and what kind of tasks are best for it (and how to change my mood to prepare for needed tasks). The side benefits of doing this successfully are that resisting the urge to heed distractions helps strengthen your prefrontal cortex, and that once you’re actually 10 minutes into working on your task, it’s easier to continue working on it. Mind Management, Not Time Management continues to describe how to optimize the building block of creative thinking: the moment of insight. Kadavy suggests that by understanding our mental states and organizing our tasks accordingly, we can get more done and focus on what's most important. It's a fresh approach to productivity by focusing on getting more out of your mind (in stead of struggling to get more out of your time).

We can maximize quality ideas by wisely stewarding our mental states: prompting the right state for our work and staying in that state as long as possible. By cultivating a well-managed mind, individuals can proactively nurture their mental and emotional well-being, fostering resilience and a positive outlook on life.

It used to believed that the brain was a static organ once you reached adulthood, but now we know that the brain changes throughout life. This mindset fosters a belief in one’s ability to learn and adapt, leading to increased innovation, resilience, and overall success. Also, what happens when life throws you for a loop, and then another loop, and then you find out that those two loops were small compared to the next loop life throws you? I particularly enjoyed the Four Stages of Creativity, the Seven Mental States of Creative Work, the Minimum Creative Dose, and the Creative Sweet Spot. I picked up a few armchair neuroscience books, the most powerful of which, by far, was David Rock’s Your Brain At Work .But it's a damn good illustration and inspiration that it's you who have to work, through those very ups and downs, mishaps and sudden thunderstorms, to find what works for *you*, personally. We’re constantly bombarded with advice on how to manage our time more effectively to achieve our goals. In "Mind Management Not Time Management," David Kadavy talks about how we can be more productive by managing our mental energy instead of just focusing on managing our time. I’m no GTD expert, and I think GTD needs to be modified for each, but I think he’s talking about a Tickler File, not an inbox. I feel there is ALOT of valuable content in this book but it was less immediately actionable than I would have hoped, since David tells many stories along the way.
