In 2017, BBC television aired a miniseries adaptation developed by Heidi Thomas, directed by Vanessa Caswill. She dies near the end of the first book, and Jo and Friedrich turn her estate into a school for boys. Laurie graduates from college, having put in the effort to do well in his last year with Jo's prompting.
