The two main characters, Sunset and Destiny, were two completely different characters in the beginning and then in the middle they became very alike and close. The last couple of chapters were better than the beginning and middle however if I was asked if I would recommend it to a friend I would probably decline. Her insightful and emotionally challenging books not only stretch reading ability, but give young readers a glimpse into many kinds of lives. It turns out there is much folklore about the idea of babies being stolen or switched just after birth. Her pain and struggle to adapt to new motherhood, including her struggle to take care of her of herself and her twins while her husband slacks, is something that feels very real and really stood out to me and drew me in.I’m not usually a fan of stories that blur the line between supernatural and psychotic – is there really something otherworldly going on, or is the main character just crazy? Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! It might not seem as much like a changeling story from the reader’s perspective but it certainly could to Rosemary. Sunset lives in a glamorous home with a rock star dad and ex-model mum but still she is not happy and Destiny lives in a bunch of grotty old flats with her gorgeous mum but still she is not happy. Since we have Lauren's perspective, we are able to follow along firsthand with what's happening and experience exactly what Lauren sees.
Little Darlings is a debut that feels like a debut, but I enjoyed enough of its elements that I would probably give this author another try in the future. Through these two women’s experiences we see many other characters dismiss Lauren’s claims primarily because they seem too far-fetched or inconvenient.A psychological thriller and a half, the opening chapter of which made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and chilled me to my core! Now believe me when I say this, this book is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, it's all about friendship, family, music and more. One day Destiny and her mother go to a red carpet opening of Danny's movie in London on Destiny's 11th birthday and Destiny's mum tries to get Danny to acknowledge Destiny; however, Danny ignores them. If Little Darlings didn't satisfy your appetite for scares, and you're in the mood to constantly be on the edge of your seat, Brenda Novak's Evelyn Talbot series - starting with Her Darkest Nightmare - is an excellent read. Her husband Patrick is uninvolved and she begins to feel increasingly isolated as her fears that the woman from the maternity ward is stalking her are dismissed by authorities as psychosis.But either way, it's a moving, frightening, psychological portrait of new motherhood, set in the Peak District. Destiny spills an exciting secret she has known for years and her mum has constantly reminded her about.
The Changeling Folktale Gets A Modern Reimagining In The Creepy Psychological Thriller 'Little Darlings' ". Yes, there are tons and tons of retellings about great stories, but I don’t think many people thought of the idea of retelling some gruesome folkloric tales. It is an absolutely beautiful heartwarming story about a girl who hasnt ever met her dad and it is a race for her to find out who her dad is however on the other side of the country is his present wife who is trying to keep him and the Kids away….Of course different characters perceive each other in different ways, but Patrick (Lauren’s husband) swung so wildly from devoted family man to selfish cad that it’s impossible to say what kind of person he is or what his motives might be. Her Mum is a very famous model, and her Dad is an incredible singer, who is extremely famous world wide. I loved the flick between ‘is Lauren suffering from postpartum psychosis’ and the paranormal-folklore aspects of ‘is something spookier happening’. I never stopped wanting to know whether the mysterious woman was real and what would happen to Lauren’s babies.
