About this deal

To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex and quickly find themselves fighting to save all of LEGO humanity. For starters, it’s not the video game that I’m first prizing out of its shrink-wrapping, but a box full of lovely LEGO bits.

The Wedge, Plate A-Shape with 2 Rows of 4 Studs is a pretty common part, but we have never seen it in Azure Blue. As the latest franchise to enter the “toys-to-life” genre, LEGO Dimensions follows in the golden boots of Skylanders and Disney Infinity, where physical characters and items are transported into the game world via a portal, and part of the fun here is building those characters and objects before you begin. As happy as I was that I could access an Adventure Mode world, the fun was gone so fast, I almost was ready to quit the game altogether. Activate his special Sonar Smash ability to help him solve in-game puzzles and overpower enemies, and when he needs a time-traveling boost, add the rebuildable 3-in-1 DeLorean Time Machine and Hoverboard in to the game! The introduction already stated that this game revolves around finding five keystones, each with a unique ability.

First off, I floundered around putting the Batmobile together on my own, even though the instructions are in the game itself. When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO worlds, different characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings and The LEGO Movie are swept away. The backside shows that you will be building the portal, after which you will connect it to your console.

For the first time in any LEGO videogame, characters from a mix of some of the best brands in the universe join forces and battle in worlds outside of their own. Recently (that is about a year ago now) I saw the box on the shelf of a local retailer, and it suddenly piqued my interest again. This is a developer who has consistently taken major movie and comic book franchises and offered a unique take on them by injecting them with a heavy dose of humour and fun, as well as familiar scenes that instantly remind us of those franchises. The main storyline is very fun to play, because you will visit a plethora of different worlds (franchises).

Oddly enough, the LEGO piece part of the portal, which I'm afraid to assemble lest it wind up in a hundred pieces spread around my office, has instructions in the accompanying instruction book and in the game. R. Labs from The CW's The Flash, Bedrock from The Flintstones, the family room from The Jetsons, and the DNA ship from Red Dwarf. It's pretty fitting that I can access these worlds, considering that I've done so in multiple other 'LEGO' games already. Let creativity be the guide to a building and gaming adventure - journey through unexpected worlds and team-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil lord vortech. Each adventure world also contains a red brick for players to retrieve; these will unlock special bonuses, such as visual modifiers for characters or extra assistance at finding collectible items. While the Doctor, GLaDOS, and X-PO work on a plan to seal Vortech in a rift loop, the heroes head to Foundation Prime, fighting him along the way. During the introduction it immediately is clear that combining the different franchises into a single game results in hilarious situations.

On the planet Foundation Prime, a wavy desert-like dimension with a hidden palace, in the center of the Lego Multiverse, Lord Vortech and his former minion X-PO seek the twelve Foundational Elements, the cornerstones of time and space itself, in a bid to merge all the universes into one under his control. The box shows that the purple keystones are placed on the front of the portal, so at this point I wonder why you need to attach them to the back of the base. The portal itself is about the same size as a mini iPad and sports a rather plain white and grey colour scheme, but it soon bursts into life when it starts flashing all the colours of the rainbow and you’re asked to place your characters onto various areas of the portal, which is split up into seven different platforms. The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack is all players need to begin – build the base and embark on a fantastic quest.

Indeed, the replay value is vast if you’re a completionist, and beyond the main story mode there’s plenty of extra content to get stuck into. Included in the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack; LEGO Dimenions Video Game, LEGO Toy Pad, Bricks to build the LEGO Gateway, 3 LEGO minifigures - Batman, Gandalf (Lord of the Rings) and Wyldstyle (LEGO Movie), LEGO Batmobile vehicle.
