I shall not spoil it for you, and tell you that they live happily ever after, but I will say that I finished the book with a smile on my face, but not before shedding some tears, too.

To be honest, I don't think this book is truly a three-star book, but I don't want to give it two stars either, which would make it seem as if I disliked the book when in reality, I think I'm just more disappointed. Putting my worth and happiness into the hands of everybody else instead of trusting that I am enough, just as I am. This book actually does end on a hopeful note for the characters, but as a reader I found it hard to envision that hope translating into a happy future together.He ran away from his prior life, and his best friend Eleanor, who he had been inseparable from as a child. It's as if everything I've ever wanted in an adult fiction novel has been tied up nice and neatly with a pretty bow wrapping it tightly, just waiting to be opened and read again and again. Is it better to be with someone predictable and who loves you to the moon and back, or is it better to play for all the marbles and risk your heart being hurt?

The story is set in the present day with flashbacks to their childhood but throughout the whole story there is an underlying mystery as to what caused them to lose touch for so long and become so distant. Their 12 year old daughter is, of course, not at all happy about the break-up of her parents' marriage and added to her burgeoning adolescence, tends to live her days in the fog of confusion. If you enjoy dysfunctional characters trying to sort through love to find THE ONE, this is the book for you.

I loved how the people around Eleanor and Fin infuse an energy that drives them to work their way through the bottlenecks.

About the Author: Emily Houghton is an Essex girl at heart, but now spends most of her time between London and Suffolk. I was immediately pulled in by the author's flowing prose and lyrical writing; it was very impressive. Romantic, hopeful and uplifting , I loved Last Time We Met and the gorgeous, emotional friendship at its heart. I was surprised by the ending, but relieved by it too - I just was doubting that it was going to happen! The premise peels away the layers that bind our perception of love, loss, family, friendships, and simplifies our understanding of relationships.
