The story is hilarious, there are so many laugh-out-loud and snort-inducing moments, and the drawings are perfect. It's actually something to stump anyone turning up to this, and it might be the first time a young reader really gets that feeling of having no idea what is happening. If your young reader is looking for something to fill a Dogman-shaped hole in their personal libraries, let alligator investigators Mango and Brash step in.The many other jokes are suitable for the target reader, and between them and the gators we learn all about life on board a ship. John Green grew up on Long Island and has worked in New York City ever since graduating from School of Visual Arts for Graphic Design in 1997.

John lives in Brooklyn in an apartment that doesn't allow animals other than the ones living in his head. This can be read as a standalone if you wish, but the series does have some world building - and the series is fantastic so I'd highly recommend them all.I read this book with my son (8) who is a huge fan and collects all InvestiGator's books--he absolutely LOVED it and can't wait to get his hands on a copy! You don't have to have read the other books in the series to be able to pick up this one and enjoy it, but they definitely build off of each other in more than just the footnotes way. Dollaz, owner of the expedition company decides to send a second ship on an expedition with 500 passengers and 8 crew members! Now, to start with the actual intrigue is perhaps too deep for this age range book – this is not an old bloke walking around a school in a bedsheet keeping people from finding a treasure.

Can the Mango and Brash unravel this maritime mystery before a second ship befalls a similarly unfathomable fate? The mystery was fun and not as predictable - there was a definite twist - as some of the previous books in the series.
