About this deal

We’re also shown fresh peeks into Locke and Nicasia’s lives, and how they were catalysts for his cruelty. It reminded him of how his father and all the Court had seen him, before he learned how to shield himself with villainy. I hate that this was a novella and not a whole novel because diving into Cardan’s mind was such an interesting little adventure.

Sure, she's an important character, and I don't completely hate her anymore because of the third book, but seeing Cardan and Nicasia but not so much of Cardan and Jude? tale books we read when we were little with witches, trolls and that one person - who was both hero and villain. In an interview with EW Black said "I planned a novella to go with the Folk of the Air series centered on Cardan, but I realized I couldn’t do justice to his story until the trilogy was over. Unfortunately, we don’t see much of Jude in this installment, though I expected that since the book is about Cardan and focuses mostly on his past. And yes, I am aware that this is less of a review of the book, and more of an insight to my Cardan obsession nobody asked for.I also liked getting to know just what happened for the relationship to end and why Cardan stopped caring for her.

So so beautiful, the pictures in this book are so stunning and the storys are beautiful and interesting. Black's stark, eerie tone; propulsive pacing; and fulsome world building will certainly delight her legion of fans. I suppose I would have plummeted out of the air,” Jude tells him with troubling equanimity, her expression saying, Horrible risks are entirely normal to me . It reads almost like a series of short stories, but they are all interconnected and each one unveils details about Cardan's life and background. Brimming with Black’s customary faerie magic, this atmospheric prequel to the events of The Folk of the Air trilogy digs deep into Cardan’s past to unearth some incredible revelations.

An illustrated addition to the New York Times bestselling Folk of Air trilogy that started with The Cruel Prince, from award-winning author Holly Black.
