About this deal

Although the ability to communicate with animals is not literally traditional to the Magician in tarot, I feel that it is a powerful and appropriate metaphor for the meaning of the card. I bought the Golden Universal Tarot (illustrated by Roberto De Angeles and published by Lo Scarabeo) because it is shiny. D. Kat deliberately chose to conform to the card styles introduced by the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck, but her own version offers a genteel, softer and much more personable version, in my humble opinion. The fabulous box in which the deck comes is a delight - and I am sure that here US Games has started a new phase in the care of box design. For anyone who doesn’t know, the Golden Tarot is a digital collage art deck adapted from late Medieval and early Renaissance works of art.

The source notes say it is actually four: the woman and garden, the dog and cliff, the silly hat, and the jewels. In the original RWS Two of Swords, the moon is a waxing crescent moon near the right corner of the card. The images are all digitally manipulated to make the source artworks more closely resemble the Rider-Waite tradition (e. Initially, I thought that with some to be expected delays in publication, the projected date of mid-2003 would still give me sufficient time to obtain one for his Virgoan birthday. The artistic parlay between the Medieval art sources, and modern collage is a continuous personal exploration. All of the Minor Arcana are clearly based on the RWS tradition, which makes this a fantastic deck for readers of all experience levels. From the figure-eight to the crayfish, the pomegranate to the tower, and the planets of astrology, here’s where you begin to decode ancient symbols for future prediction, insight, and affirmation in your daily life. While her deck remains true to the original Rider-Waite traditional symbolism, Kat Black offers accessible tarot interpretations that are fresh and welcoming. The internet has been no help in my attempts to translate the Renaissance Milanese dialect, but if it’s anything like French, I’d say it likely means something like “In the right” or “With a good right”.

Golden Tarot follows RWS imagery in a way that makes it easy to use, but uses richer period artwork in a way that feels really authentic. The rest of the book includes a lengthy list of the original art from which images were sourced for each card.

but from here, allow me to quote Kat herself as she explained it on Aeclectic Tarot Forum: ‘I didn’t know that my deck was being printed in China until my own copy (finally) arrived. The cards are beautiful, the packaging is beautiful, the book is beautiful–so much care went into this.Being a Capricorn, and not liking change all that well, I think my computer could be assured of retaining its wallpaper for at least a month! From the figure-eight to the crayfish; and the pomegranate to the tower; heres where you begin to decode ancient symbols for future prediction; insight and affirmation in your daily life. It’s one of those Tarot decks that I think every serious reader should own, not only for its historical value but for the beauty of the art and the symbolic richness of the cards themselves.

As Kat Black described, she has used the Waite/Colman Smith for over twenty years, and intended the newer version of her deck to combine what she values in both the Waite/Colman Smith and the Visconti-Sforza. Our Non-Fiction Range includes: Academic, Photography, Audio books, Business, Cook Books, Craft Books, Health and Fitness Books, Mind, Body, Spirit (Tarot). This deck is an absolute home run, and I recommend it without reservation to any Tarot reader or collector. The artwork is digital collage -- and you generally do have to look to see where the collage "happened".
