About this deal

In an increasingly cramped world, a modern guide to opening up your living space – and your life – using the ancient principles of feng shui.

I wasn’t a fan of the amount of white space which felt like an attempt at making the book artificially longer. A too-small door can mean less fortune entering your home, too big and it won’t hold it in, or signals immodesty. tan explains all of the concepts and principles in a way that's very easy to understand, especially for those of us who don't know the cultural and historical contexts of the practice. In Feng Shui Modern, Cliff explains the concepts of feng shui and then uses expert tips and practical diagrams to show – room by room – how our own styles, colour palettes and furniture can be used to maximise any environment. Cliff has become an internet sensation with his videos demonstrating the principles of feng shui from chi (energy) to the command position – and he has put his wisdom into a book for the first time.Traditionally there is less focus on these ‘service’ rooms in feng shui, but there is plenty you can do.

Menopause affects every woman, and yet so many approach it with shame, fear, misinformation or silence. Desks can be disguised a little if you keep the units on either side at the same level so it flows and blends in. Feng Shui always seemed kind of mystical-ish but Cliff made it approachable and digestible in his videos and I knew I had to give his book a try. A thoughtful gift for anyone going through the different phases of grief, to understand that this range of emotions is normal and part of the healing process. Pick one item in your home you are passionate about, whether it’s a picture, jewellery or even a TV.We are going to tell you the truth, so you can make an informed decision about your life and your body . Whether you believe in this spiritual asset (i dont) or not it is still fascinating just because of how much thinking goes into placing a single piece of furniture and what shape it should have because of what it symbolises. Singaporean Cliff Tan is an architect with over 15 years experience in planning and space optimisation. Because living rooms are social places, to encourage conversations, you don’t want a TV to dominate the room (even though we all watch them! But it doesn't matter too much if you agree with these symbols or not, as the later parts of the book where he talks about architecture, furniture, etc.

And make sure you face into the room, you don’t want to be staring at the wall as you work, you still want to be in the command position and able to see the door. They should be in the living room too, otherwise it will feel like you’re among your friends and it won’t be the relaxing vibe you need as you fall asleep. Feng shui – the centuries-old guidelines for design – literally means ‘the way of wind and water’ and refers to the ideal location and orientation for the perfect city: with proximity to a river, protection from the hills and safety from floods. I learned a lot in this little hardback and will be referring back to it often as I arrange and decorate my apartment! Menopausing will also celebrate the sharing of stories, enabling women to feel less alone and more understood, and talk openly and positively about menopause.Great book overall, informative, concise, easy read and great illustrations which did not distract from the content. I would avoid red as it can destroy the water element, and if you have no window you must invest in a high quality vent to avoid stale air. Categorise everything, don’t allow a miscellaneous box, toiletries need to be in the bathroom, clothes in the bedroom and so on.
