About this deal

Which one to get comes down to personal taste (see further down for more on the fullscreen/widescreen debate). Whose trip away with his friends and girlfriend Linda turns into a deadlight disaster when they stumble across the Book of the Dead, unleashing evil spirits which possess the living. They talk to nine other horror filmmakers about Evil Dead 2, and the influence it had on their work. Please let us know of any major releases that we are not aware of or have edits for current release information. Once there, however, the group find themselves beset by demons from the nearby woods when they begin reading from an unearthed Book of the Dead.

When their first target has been to reach peace, they should fight restlessly as they find themselves surrounded by an evil force that turns its victims into heartless monsters. The film itself is transferred from the US Anchor Bay 2010 Blu-Ray release, painstakingly re-edited and synced to a number of previously released commentary tracks.Reunion Panel (31min) - Chicago’s Flashback Weekend in 2005 hosted the actors and actresses of The Evil Dead. Sam talks us through the process of making the first film, and most importantly raising the finance for it. This disc is the same as disc two of the original release, so you get the director's cut of the movie, along with the extras of the second disc. DVD purchasers may see 'anamorphic widescreen' on the cover, without realising that black bars have just been put on the top and bottom of the original 4:3 open matte print, meaning you see less picture in the 'Widescreen' version than in the 'Full Screen' version.

From what I could tell this is all-new footage with none of the old outtake footage from the Elite and Book of the Dead editions. One other separate Anchor Bay issue worthy of mention is the controversy surrounding the 2005 R1 US Anchor Bay 'Divimax' Book Of The Dead 2 DVD and subsequent Blu-ray release. Update 7/11/15 - 10/15/18: If we're going to talk about the definitive Evil Dead experience, we can't leave out its top level format release.

This transfer also has noticeably adjusted contrast levels and higher widescreen framing, all of which you can see from the comparison screenshots below. It's just a little annoying that you need to find an older disc of the first Evil Dead to have most of its key special features. The UHD is still fixed to make it look like daylight than night outside when Scott explores the cabin and shed. Life After Death: The Ladies of the Evil Dead (15min) - this featurette tells of how the three ladies in this film decided to get together and learn about horror conventions and how to (make money and) be guest stars signing autographs just as Bruce Campbell has over the past million years.

I have the movie in his FULLY UNALTERED version, both formats ( 16/9 and 4:3 ) and witch his ORIGINAL COLORS !

And then a newer 25th Anniversary Edition from Lions Gate in 2011, which surprisingly kicked Anchor Bay's disc in the teeth. From rave reviews and standing ovations in New York, Montreal and now Toronto, join us for Evil Dead, The Musical. I've read on another forum that the handful of awkward-framing instances in the widescreen version have been re-framed for this release.

The actual contents of both discs are identical, but the Limited Edition version was limited to 50,000 units and is usually more expensive to get, but does come in a Tin with a postcard sized replica of the UK Palace Pictures quad poster, and a 48 page booklet, while the standard version just comes with the postcard in a normal plastic DVD case. They discover an old book which, once they have read it, summons up all kinds of horrors: the trees come alive and so do the dead, who take over the bodies of the living. At the Drive-In (13min) – the above mentioned hand out The Evil Dead DVD in 2005 to a group of hardcore fans that are camping out in a parking lot at Chicago’s O’Hara International Airport with a big screen ready to watch the film. But despite the limitations of the source, I’m looking forward to an HD release that would rid the image of DVD-related artefacts from compression and get the added benefit of a cleaner output for the Blu-ray players.Bruce Campbell: Geek or God The same contributors as before consider the importance of Bruce Campbell to the franchise, in this short featurette. This would probably have been done for technical reasons, such as source print damage, or on-set equipment which would have been visible otherwise.
