About this deal

The final two tracks ‘The Devil Rides Tonight’ and ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ both begin gently and wind up as rockers with Vinny let off the leash somewhat after playing with tasteful restraint for much of the album. There are the very tangible and calm moments, like ‘Lovers and Friends’, the anthemic songs like ‘Cradle to the Grave’ with some Irish influences and there are the rocking moments. Wharton spoke in interviews about his desire to translate these songs to the live arena and with “Cradle To The Grave” and its U2 stylings he has really delivered. Taking to the stage, Troy and Finn get to work on opener Scorpio, a gritty number that fits the appearance of Redfern, who seems edgier than normal, maybe it’s first-night nerves. You know, I spent my early career with Thin Lizzy, so that rubbed off me a great deal, working with Phil Lynott and Scott Gorham.

If you love your melodic rock on the lighter side and relish an album that doesn’t put a foot wrong then this is it – it’s stunning, it’s beautiful and for my money Darren’s best so far in a career full of great records. There’s a suggestion that all of these are about the past, but this mid-paced rocker will probably transport anyone to whatever moment they choose. The accompanying music video makes the band larger-than-life and draws you further and further into the song’s world. Upbeat in sound, melancholy in theme, more resounding in its Celtic rock assurgency as it bops along is ‘Cradle To The Grave’.It’s a lively rock ballad, with melding riffs and a vibe that whisks you away to days of summer-time. Born in the Storm is a Magnum-esque opener, and it's a peach too, but Cradle to the Grave sounds folkier, because of the way the vocal line unfolds. Fire Never Fades” looks back on childhood, and the title track seems to underline the journey through life, but its sheer scope and size is impressive.

This edition featured alternate cover art, a rearranged track list, remixed sound, and the addition of a previously unreleased bonus track, "Cold Wind Will Blow".That's four excellent tracks out of four, four varied tracks as well that underline how powerful this album is. Lovers and Friends’ is even lusher, a wonderfully orchestrated ballad that sweeps you up in its soft arms.

He is also king of the ‘bromance’ and ‘Only The Good Die Young’, possibly directed at the memory of Phil Lynott and/or Gary Moore with its atmospheric piano and a Springsteen esque, anthemic feel is probably my favourite on the album. Planned 2023 dates include the Firestorm festival in Manchester on 13 August and a joint-headline tour of Spain with FM in October. THRASH - Between hardcore and death metal, Cage Fight is the fruit of the fierce collaboration between the former singer of Eths and the guitarist of TesseracT, furious, catchy, brutal and sharp.BAND LINE-UP: DARREN WHARTON-VOCALS, KEYBOARDS / VINNY BURNS-GUITARS / NIGEL CLUTTERBUCK-BASS GUITAR / KEV WHITEHEAD-DRUMS / MARC ROBERTS-KEYBOARDS. Rewind to 2010 and the Welsh-born trio of Tom Hollister, Chris Buck and Adam Roberts were riding a wave of hype, hotly-tipped by some of the biggest names in rock - most notably Steve Winwood who invited the band to record at his storied Wincraft Studios. All the elements seem to be gathered to continue the come back initiated with "Sacred Ground" towards what had made the success of the monumental "Out Of The Silence" (1988). Although the band could never enjoy a big break-through, the quintet delivered well-crafted longplayers all along the way and offered good quality songs. On closing number ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ keyboards temper the mood and the guitar plays quieter in the background over this churchly AOR number – If its attempt is to be aspiring rock as kindled by the influence of visionaries like William Blake, its coming from a good place.
