About this deal
Breathless is a funny, honest and stylish exploration of the knife-edge of hoarding, from the joy of purchasing new fashion, to the addiction and suffocating shame of having way too many clothes.
Hugh Borthwick, Head of Production at TRP, said: “We’ve had global associations before with other co-producing partners like Ontroerend Goed, and we should feel very proud about that.I was going to try and get sponsorship, you know businesses involved, we were in the middle of planning that, and doing all the health and safety- it was a nightmare trying to source a treadmill. It speaks to our ambitions to make exciting new work in Plymouth that we can share across the country.
Both felt it was an accurate reflection of their lives, far removed from the casual treatment of hoarders on TV who are often shown as living in piles of vermin infested rubbish, with ‘a cure’ being as simple as chucking house contents in a skip and a jolly good clean.Breathless (Laura Horton’s Fringe First Award winning show, which is now being shown at the SOHO Theatre this week) wasn’t written on commission, I had to put it out there myself, it’s difficult in the Arts because I feel like it’s a mixture of trying to find funding, trying to raise money to make things happen, it’s quite exhausting. Despite selling so much it didn’t really touch the sides, I still moved home with a horrifying amount of clothes.
