The packaging is worth its own mention as Bloodsport gets a trio of different special edition packages to choose from - mirroring the Mediabook style popular in Capelight's native Germany. Most fans will get a veritable kick out of revisiting this action classic in easily the best shape it has ever been in, whilst those looking hard for trouble will probably find a smidge too much softness around the edges. These all-new bonus features are entirely in English with optional German subtitles and can be found on both discs. Blu-ray edition, which squeezed both this film and Timecop on a dual-layered disc via the outdated VC-1 codec. It's hardly going to be regarded as demo material, but it's easily the best the film has ever sounded.

Capelight's excellent extras package translates over here too, with a whole host of extra features ported to the 4K disc proper, headlined by an Audio Commentary and including a number of great new interviews by the main production crew. We reviewed the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Bloodsport on an LG 55B7 Dolby Vision 4K Ultra HD OLED TV with a Panasonic DP-UB820EB-K Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player.Still, it's hard to complain really as, for the most part, it looks pretty glorious for Van Damme's '88 breakthrough. These FPs were very unusual and had this awesome building quality without the typical dents/scratches and have a very thick painting and especially the white ones look awesome. The German release is pretty English friendly but you still get the German language on the menus and back of the packaging. Dialogue remains well prioritised (even the obviously dubbed / ADR work), taking precedence where required, whilst effects enjoy the bustle of the Hong Kong streets, the car noises, crowds, splashing across boats, and - of course - the painful body blows that dominate the fight sequences and land with suitably engaging LFE impact. Yeah, it’s cheesy, but the martial arts set pieces are done very well and the overall theme of the film will give you that “feel good factor” at the end.
