About this deal

The TK800 is a recent addition to BenQ’s range of home entertainment projectors that are geared towards sports and is similar, in terms of design, to previous models. Our TK800 sample measured a very good 82% uniformity, better than what we saw with either of our two HT2550 test units. The projector will accept 4K HDR image signals and display them within the native capabilities of the projector. No, it has simple goals that won’t please the fussy videophile and it couldn’t care less about that in all seriousness.

The audio is louder and has better dynamic range than the 10W speaker on the PX747-4K, so specs are not relevant for comparative purposes on this feature. This is where the TK800 has been designed to shine (pun intended) and it does so as you would expect. We could tell from testing the TK800 that the color wheel did limit the range of colors that it could deliver, but BenQ have done a good job of mapping HDR content to the projector’s native capabilities. It visibly increases contrast for both SDR and HDR content and delivers a claimed 8000 hours of bulb life.

Rather than making huge changes to the RGB sliders, I chose to leave Brilliant Color on and tweak the Normal preset. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience.Gamma is also tracking slightly high (dark) from the mid-tones upwards to white, which is not ideal, but also doesn’t result in any major issues at all. With a built-in speaker and compact chassis, it’s also a great portable solution for entertainment on the go.

The TK800M provides automatic vertical keystone correction that solves this problem, but I strongly recommend avoiding any keystone correction if at all possible, because it reduces the sharpness of the image. The TK800 doesn’t carry a native 3,840 x 2,160 set
of DLP ‘mirrors’, but can manipulate these mirrors fast enough to deliver two pixels from each mirror for every image frame. It is the cheapest option recommended for in-home use, where projection quality and reliability are not as crucial. It’s another chink in the armour, but we are not sure again that the target audience will be watching this type of content, or even see the issues, but we need to be complete in our assessment.
