About this deal

I have to say, it was a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved, from the ages of 36 to 70. Between the first and second lockdown in the UK, I was made aware that I was eligible for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), a kind of disability benefit. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. With recipes to suit any occasion, the book is written in clear, jargon-free language which makes ‘the obvious’ obvious. In a way, The Autism-Friendly Cookbook is the most ironic project I will probably ever work on – simply on the grounds that I am the world’s worst cook!

Neurodiversity, with its unique perspective on problem-solving and pattern recognition, becomes a catalyst for innovation. The Autism-Friendly Cookbook was created for autistic adults and teens to turn to when cooking for friends, lacking inspiration, or on those low-energy days. The result was a tasty, wholesome, and comforting meal, with a warm smoky taste from the chorizo and paprika. From the point of diagnosis, there seems to be this odd idea about how to deal with acknowledging that someone is on the autistic spectrum. And if someone criticizes that delicious, chocolate sponge cake you tried to create, because you turned it into something that looked a little like a monster to cover up some not very noticeable flaws, they can always go without a slice. We will keep rules that define things such as safety, as well as keeping standards of food care in place, too.

Healthier Choices: Make smarter food choices with recipes that are not just tasty but also promote better health. We tweet it, blog it, Facebook it, WhatsApp it, exchange it in conversation; it is the very basis of what constitutes a society of people. The cake everyone is asking me about and here at my home everyone is waiting for and making plans for the next baking session due to any (I mean ANY! When I told someone I was reviewing this book, their first question was “how is a cookbook for autistic people different to a cookbook for neurotypical people? pages of task-analysed recipes—in small steps and clear terms—make explicit absolutely everything you need to do.The latter half of the book will include recipes divided by breakfast, lunch, dinner and miscellaneous – categorised by social occasion and energy level.

My oldest friend, Lalaine, is in the book; having caused friendly embarrassment while I was her work experience intern (we’ve been friends in the years since), a declaration was made to get my own back! Again, the recipe made loads, so whilst it’s a longer cook than many of the recipes, your labour is rewarded with lots of yummy leftovers. Lydia found herself in the position in having to go to a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) tribunal. There was a myriad of similar issues – very much in the same vein – and a resource was so clearly needed of all the relevant information in one place. We are all familiar with those moments where something is just bound to go wrong, when we end up asking, "Why me?Try sprinkling other things on top of the crumble in addition to or instead of the sugar; desiccated coconut is one thing you could try! Cookbooks I googled often had ‘junk science’ claims - often along the line of ‘cure your disability, eat this super healthy food and stop poisoning yourself! But we will not keep the standard of ‘everything having to be perfect’ – from the presentation of a recipe to the food combinations. These five rules should make up the common ground of what any autistic individual needs to remember while using The Autism-Friendly Cookbook and cooking, baking, or working with food. Pre-preparation: Take the butter out of your fridge and allow to come to room temperature; this will make it easier to work with in the long run.
