About this deal

About the book: Meredith Fox has been going to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer as long as she can remember. It will all be overwhelming, but even more since since the entire extended family will be together for her cousin’s big wedding. This was definitely not my favorite book this summer, but I had been hearing so much about it that I'm glad I got the chance to read it! he can sense that meredith needs support or some space, understand what she thinks just by eye contact and he really shows that he want to be with meredith, not just says it. I found myself wanting to live inside the pages, totally enamoured by Meredith’s family, the romance ( THE ROMANCE!

But as the week progresses, she can't help falling for him, which may cost her not only the game, but also her heart.

Personally, I didn’t find the characters to actually be immature at all, which I found refreshing in a young adult book. Some sadness and trauma from a past death in a car accident, which is briefly described without gore. You're telling me that there was a YA contemporary rom-com that actually lived up to my massive expectations/ absolute NEEDS? Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century.

i also really like how the game is a way for merediths family to reconnect, mourn over a loss, welcome new members, and learn how to live again. I wished I was there, part of a game that had teens and adults equally passionate about the outcome. They form a sort-of alliance to help one another with the game, but the more time she spends with him, the faster she’s falling under his spell. and the family bonds- omg i’m a sucker for found family but this is literally a real family and it gives you everything you want, wise but funny grandparents, dramatic aunts, loud and joyful kids, drunk groomsmen. The first she makes with Wit, one of the groomsmen, whose real name is Stephen, agreeing that each will share intelligence and let each other know if either of their names come up in conversations; the second she makes with herself: that she will win the game of Assassin this year in Claire’s honor.

I do not say that often, but they were literally all over each other and I just wanted to get back to the game of Assassin, because I didn't care one bit about them.

And as the week progresses, she realizes she’s not only at risk of losing the game, but also her heart. And a gigantic SHOUT OUT to my friend Kat for gifting me this book and knowing exactly the kind of stories I fall for.Every summer, Meredith’s family vacations in Martha’s Vineyard and I kind of want to experience summer on this little Massachusetts island now, with the sandy trails, all of Meredith’s family houses, the bike rides, the beach and the pond and everything else. It’s the best game ever, and invokes likeminded reminders of playing similar games with my friends in the summertime. Meredith's family's annual game of assassin at Martha's Vineyard during a summer wedding is the perfect chance to honor her sister's legacy, and finally join the world again. Not only are they exceptionally close, but they have the best ways of having summer fun, spending excitement-filled days at Martha’s Vineyard, playing their annual game of Assassin.

children hiding pies from a golden retriever, grown up men splashing water to teenagers and making videos of it, to ‘kill’ the next target people ruining wedding events, everyone yelling/hiding/running/laughing, the ambition to win, the passion of game, how everyone loves each other. I thought it was cute and endearing and I loved how the huge extended family just unconditionally loved each other. Her childhood was spent playing ice hockey, watching romantic comedies, and singing along to Taylor Swift. Yes, loss and grief was a part of the story but there weren’t a ton of sad moments, and it felt more like a summer romance, than someone trying to get over a loss. She decides to continue with her plan to attend Hamilton College and to continue healing with the help of her parents, but she also decides to get a therapist and start a long-distance relationship with Wit, knowing that they will have the opportunity to reunite at Martha’s Vineyard next summer. To be fair, at that point I couldn't care less about the characters or anything, but it was still surprising and a little odd. I think it shows that everyday we can open our eyes to things we didn’t realize about ourselves, and what we want. The mix of budding romance, competitive hijinks, a close-knit circle, as well as dealing with loss make for a satisfying read. Walther was born and raised in the rolling hills of Bucks County, Pennsylvania surrounded by family, dogs, and books.
