About this deal

The new tyre has a boosted tread pattern, multi-layer overlapping ply construction and additional sidewall protection - although from afar it looks very much like a "regular" GP5000. We've had our suspicions of the existence of different specifications of the Black Chili compound for several years.

Prior to testing the AS TR, I’d been using the S TR (also in a 28c size) as part of another test, and found the two remarkably similar. After 14 years and multiple different remakes, the popular GP 4000 has finally evolved into the next generation.Continental used their experience creating winter tyres and and added improved durability to the Grand Prix 5000 AS tyres to give you the best balance of performance and value over the autumn and winter months. Great work - not made it at all clear if they can be used with hooked rims - press release was copied and pasted. It offers more grip, puncture resistance, and better durability than the hugely popular Grand Prix 5000 S TR.

And I can easily say that it is as convenient and remarkable as the Continental Grand Prix 4000 S II.In this instance, then, what Continental has given with one hand it may have taken away with the other. We're trying to understand why Continental isn't more clear about the Black Chili compound, as it would help many riders make a better choice when choosing Continental tires. Nevertheless, where the GP 4 Season tyre leans more towards a sturdy build, the AS TR would appear to favour speed and grip over sheer resilience.

The GP5000 AS TR is pitched as the German brand’s tubeless road training tyre, and is said to be tough enough to see you over “rough roads in bad weather”. Designed with the latest iteration of Continental’s legendary Black Chili rubber compound, the Grand Prix 5000 boasts a 10-gram weight reduction in a 25c width, a 12% reduction in rolling resistance and a 20% increase in durability compared with its predecessor. Regular test wins confirm the measureable and noticeable advantages for the cyclist, established in the laboratory and on the road. However, if maximum puncture resistance is your main priority, I suspect you may be better off looking elsewhere.uk is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Pay4Later Limited, trading as Deko, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 728646).

We offer 10 days free cover with all new bikes purchased, provided by our insurance partner VeloLife. This model is tubeless-ready and hookless compatible, and Continental says the weights start at 300g per tyre. Taking on the local switch backs at top speed, I feel even more confident that I won't slide out and I beat my PR by 10 seconds after a light rain, then by 45 seconds on a dry day! No-one is forcing you read other people's posts (or add a pointless, shitty reaction to them) so it seems you're just as much of a prick as anyone else.I was able to set up the 28c AS TR tyres on hooked Reynolds ATRx carbon rims (23mm wide internally) without undue trouble, popping into place with the use of my track pump. The Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR tyre offers near-S TR performance, but with added reassurance of a more resilient construction.
