Four years have passed since the events of "Halloween Kills. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her granddaughter Allison Nelson (Andy Matichak) have recovered from the death of their daughter and mother Karen (Judy Greer). They're trying to make a fresh start -- without the constant fear of Michael Myers. The women move into a cozy house, hide their guns in the basement, and even establish a personal life. Lonely Allison falls in love with Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), the guy who accidentally killed a child and became the main object of hatred for the townspeople after the masked maniac disappeared. But Myers doesn't doze off: As the calendar flips to October 31, blood, murder, and horror will once again descend on the small town of Haddonfield in a purple wave. Only this time is sure to be the last. At least, that's what the film's title promises. As Corey gets most of the screen time, this leads the film to an unexcitingly bland final showdown between iconic final girl Jamie Lee Curtis and The Shape. If we'd gotten to know Corey earlier, the focus on him could have meant more, but as a late-in-the-game pinch-hitter killer, he misses the ball. While Laurie and Corey get the most character care and attention, Allyson is frustratingly pushed to the side. After playing a strong and interesting character in the last two films, she just sorta sits there as a passive and irrational plot device instead of someone with an arc.

somehow recognizes the beast within him. Corey suddenly finds himself a changed man, desiring to deal death much like Michael himself. He finds Whatever your thoughts on Halloween Kills, it ended on an intriguing cliff-hanger – hinting at an evolution of evil, of how it had evolved past simply inhabiting the soul of a single man and now had been somehow released, alongside Myers’ own mortality and it promised much in terms of the final showdown with Laurie Strode as a result. Yet despite a handful of well executed thrill kill scenes (the opening baby-sitting accident is the best scene in the entire film and shows that Gordon Green can do when he puts his mind to it), the overarching narrative of Halloween Ends is not just a confusing mess (unlike the previous two films, the link between theme, narrative and character here is muddied from the get go – character motivations baffle, dialogue exchanges seem to about face in their meaning mid-sentence and even the simple story arc of key characters are puzzlingly obtuse) but it annoyingly pivots away from the end of … Kills completely (Myers is now a homeless man who can barely stand, not the mythic, invulnerable embodiment of evil he ended the last film as), almost jettisoning Myers wholly from its storyline, replacing him with a new character with no heritage at all and ultimately robbing the audience of the prime reason for this film to even exist. Ultimately, the film on its own has merits – a solid cast, handsome production values, another great John and Cody Carpenter score and some interesting themes being explored. But in terms of delivering what was very clearly promised, on what has been talked up by Green, Curtis et al for years now, the trilogy and this film in particular cannot help but disappoint, even with the weight of those heady expectations removed. Deleted and Extended Scenes (1080p, 7:06 total runtime): Included are Michael Shakes Things Up, Joan's Bunny Slam, Corey

Halloween’ Trilogy Gets New 4K David Gordon Green’s ‘Halloween’ Trilogy Gets New 4K

If your biggest Halloween Kills complaint was that it was just a series of killings in place of a plot, then Halloween Ends is the reverse of that. For the final outing, David Gordon Green has slowed things down for a different kind of Halloween movie, but it only really leads to other problems. Language And Audio: English DTS:X Master Audio / French Canadian DTS Digital Surround 5.1 / Latin Spanish DTS Digital Surround 5.1Audio Commentary featuring David Gordon Green, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell, Attila Salih Yucer, Hugo Garza If ever an opening credits font could serve as a warning shot, the use of the Halloween III: Season of the Witch font was it. This is a very different Halloween film from the two that came before. It’s more cerebral (or at least it thinks it is), and much more character focused than previous entries. But the character that gets the most care and attention, Corey, was introduced far too late in this franchise sub-trilogy. I felt Rohan Campbell delivered one hell of a performance here. When we first meet him, he’s likable and funny, and you feel for him when his life goes so bad. But he needed to have been introduced in Halloween (2018)- not two movies later. Most of his transformation would have been a great way to spend Halloween Kills instead of waiting for the next obnoxious chant of “ EVIL DIES TONIGHT.” Rafael Motamayor gave Halloween Kills a 7/10 for IGN, saying it "suffers from being the second chapter in a trilogy, but it still delivers gory fun, fantastic performances, and an electrifying score from John Carpenter."
