About this deal
Filco’s latest in wireless portable keyboards, the Filco Majestouch Minila-R (Matte Black) is the new flagship and benchmark for excellence in wireless pre-built mechanical keyboards.
The function key problem is sometimes still a bit of a pain (I am a developer and use F-keys a lot), but I've got used to it. If using Bluetooth connection, the personal computer must be equipped with Bluetooth function or have a Bluetooth adapter.
Were it not for the unexpected bulk of the case, I think I'd be satisfied with the Minila Air thanks to its obvious excellence in most other respects. It’s a 68 Key compact 60% layout keyboard, but to get that many keys, including arrow keys, Filco had to make the layout a little strange. It takes a teeny tiny bit of time to get used to, due to the compact design, but when you have gotten used to it, it has a very nice feel to it, and it is awesome.
However, since it was no longer my daily driver, I decided to try a couple of mods out on it to see if I could get a more muted sound from the board. Overall this is an excellent portable mech board with some clever customisation features, which feels like it will last a long time. All Filco keyboards come with genuine Cherry MX Switches, and the Filco Majestouch Minila-R (Matte Black) is no exception.
When I posted my review of the Minila back in April this year, I was really enjoying the Filco board - the only reason I moved off it as my daily driver in work was sound profile was making me stand out a little in the open plan office. I was really blown away by it - at once I wanted to bring it back into the office and use it again, but although I loved the new sound profile - I’m still not sure it’s quieter than my silent red switches in the Vortex Cypher.
My only gripe is since I went for a UK layout, replacements caps are pretty much out of the question for me. Second, the unique layout has productivity in mind, not my plans to prettify it with fabulous keycaps.
Mac layouts are fully supported on this keyboard with the designated switch to adjust Mac configuration.
