About this deal

While this book was not the best writing i've read, Jenson provides a quick look into the essential parts of a formula one driver's life through his conversational approach in discussing his own career. It's my dad - the many times he saved me, the one moment he doubted me, the hole in my life he left me.

You get that impression from reading his autobiography Life to the Limit: My Autobiography and you get it here too. From growing up as part of a motor-racing-mad family under the guidance of his father John, to arriving at Williams as a fresh-faced 20 year-old, to being written off by some as a playboy and his fight back to the very pinnacle of his sport. The book is easy to read, it comes across as honest and written very much in the words that you can imagine coming out of his mouth in an interview. The team management led by the team principal and serial winner Ross Brawn bought the team from Honda for a nominal sum and named the team Brawn GP. Distinctly average with an underlying smugness, just like the author at his 'book signing' last night! Naming no names, some of them were complete arseholes, to a young man who was working hard and just trying to make his dream a reality, for God’s sake.

Life to the Limit: My Autobiography’ by Jenson Button as a book is a lot like button in an F1 car – fast-paced and smooth, hitting all the apexes. Aside from the family snaps, these are largely Sutton and Getty pictures also seen in motorsports magazines. There's something about the sport that keeps me coming back, even when I get furious and say I'm never going to watch another race, ever. So I was keen to find out how he portrays himself and whether he addresses the very issues things he has been accused of. Jenson’s World Championship victory for the unsponsored and unfancied Brawn GP team is one of the most extraordinary against-the-odds sports stories of the century. Now, I never miss a race, I could tell you the World Champion each year for the last 50 years more or less and I love a good Formula 1 documentary.
