The DRAGOON system is powerful enough that a mobile suit equipped with this system, in combination with a skilled pilot, can match or overwhelm the firepower of an entire team of conventional CE mobile suits, but with more coordination than a group of individual CE pilots. Like the other four units, the Freedom is equipped with Phase Shift armor. Thanks to its N-Jammer Canceller and nuclear reactor the PS armor is capable of being active for a lot longer than on non-nuclear powered suits such as the Strike. Mounted in the head, a pair of CIWS guns are close-range, shell-firing weapons for intercepting incoming enemy missiles, including enemy units at close range. After the war, the Freedom was repaired and hidden in a secret underground base in Orb, where it remained for more than two years. It returned to action after an assassination attempt on Lacus. Kira launched in the Freedom and swiftly defeated the assassins' UMF/SSO-3 ASHs. [14] Afterwards, Kira used the Freedom to " kidnap" Cagalli from her wedding and brought her aboard the Archangel before the ship left Orb. Later, the Freedom was used by Kira in two failed attempts to stop the battling between Orb and ZAFT forces during the Battle of Dardanelles [15] and the Battle of Crete. [16] During the Battle of Berlin, the Freedom fought and destroyed the Alliance's GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam, resulting in the death of its pilot, Stella Loussier. [17]

The internal PS armor materials also help to withstand the massive output and Gs caused by the Hyper Deuterion engine and the new propulsion system, playing a role in increasing Strike Freedom's mobility. However, the main contributor to the MS's superior mobility are the mobile weapon wings, which can be deployed in the "High Mobility Aerial Tactics (HiMAT)" Mode to enhance the suit's mobility in the atmosphere or in space. [2] The wings also features a variant of the "Voiture Lumiere" propulsion system, which can generate a visual effect called the "Wings of the Skies" similar to ZGMF-X42S Destiny's Wings of Light and is used as a means of high speed movement. The Tactical Arms IIL used by the Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai is outfitted with a DRAGOON system. However, as it is based on the First Generation system, it can only be used by those with a high spatial awareness. The suit's main close combat weapon, a pair of them are mounted on the hips. They are also used by ∞ Justice, and are enhanced version of the ones used by Justice and Freedom. The two beam sabers can also be combined together to form a dual-beam saber/beam javelin. Some early sources describe the Strike Freedom's power plant as "laser fusion engine". However, all later sources used "Hyper-Deuterion Engine". Freedom's head crest displays the text "X-10A DIECI", which is a reference to its model number. Dieci means ten in Italian. In-universe, it is a tribute to the creator of the first mobile suit, the Italian coordinator Gian Carlo Maniani. [21]
