Tomatoes can be grown in a variety of ways, and one of the most common methods is to plant them in the ground. In addition to tomatoes, the hanging tomato plant is another type of tomato plant. When ripe tomatoes drop down and produce their vibrant, large, and sweet-smelling fruit, they are labeled as Tomatoes. Tomatoes take three to six months on average for the ground to reach their peak. The earlier you plant tomatoes, the better they will grow and produce healthy tomatoes. The tomato can be grown without additional assistance as long as it has sufficient soil and is properly fed. If your tomato plants thrive in a sun-drenched area of your garden where the sun is shining all the time, it may be a good idea to mulch around their base. Yellow tomatoes are less acidic, milder on the stomach, and often have a creamy texture than their red counterparts. So if you’re someone who struggles with heartburn or acid reflux (me!) then yellow tomatoes are probably the best option for you. Fill containers to within 2-3cm (about 1in) of the rim with moist compost - growing bag compost or our own professional compostis ideal. These varieties are a combination of beefsteak and heirloom varieties. Those words end up getting used to describe both, so I’ve combined them in this list. Water regularly to keep the compost moist - at least once a day in hot weather when the plants grow larger.

They yield best in a greenhouse or polytunnel, cordoned, and are very reliable (though perhaps not as high yielding as Sungold and other varieties). These bright yellow and orange types will look great on the plant, and also add colour and taste to summer salads and other recipes. 1) ‘Galina’ Pruning of yellow salad and beef tomatoes is important for good fruiting – leave a maximum of two shoots. Yellow cherry tomato varieties can also tolerate three or four main shoots on one plant. The ‘Yellow Date’ is another pear-shaped yellow tomato. Its’ small, sweet, yellow fruits grow abundantly on the plant. They can be grown on several vines and are suite to growing in pots with rain cover. Bury the roots deeply (up to first ‘seed’ leaves on the stem) and water well, to settle the compost around them.

They have a balanced flavour and are produced prolifically over a relatively long growing season – starting to produce early and continuing on well into the autumn in the right conditions. 9) ‘Lemon Grape’ This is another F1 variety, which is best cordoned and which can outcompete even the famous Sungold (see below) on flavour. 4) ‘Golden Crown’ Tomatoes can be planted up into their containers from April onwards, and grown on for a couple of weeks before placing outside after hardening off. Cover plants with horticultural fleece on any unexpectedly cold nights. If you are short on space and are looking for a trailing, compact, bushy tomato variety for hanging baskets or containers, then ‘Pear Drop’ could be a good option to consider. If you begin pruning too early, you may find that the fruits are sparse and that some of the plants are not even alive. A significant aspect of the entire process is that growers are able to harvest fresh tomatoes from their fields each season rather than replanting them.
