About this deal

Wash the hair and body, leaving the skin clean and soft. We mix Soapnut extract with Rhassoul Clay to make a degreasing shampoo. Of course, traditional soap and detergents aren’t the only way to keep your home and laundry clean and hygienic.

The reason I discovered the issue was because out almond milk was grainy the first time I made it from scratch... after some investigation I of course discovered that the culprit was our dirty almonds! The plant saponins which are in very high concentrations in the sapindus mukorossi soapnut are water soluble. Saponins are a natural surfactant which reduce surface tension of water, making water ‘wetter’ and allowing it to penetrate the clothing fibers lifting dirt, grime and oil from the clothes. The surfactants then hold onto the dirt, keeping it in suspension in the water until it is drained away. During the rinse cycle, normally with cold water, no more soap is released, meaning that when the clothes are dry, they are completely fragrance free and soft. The Basics of Using Soapnuts The process of germination can occur anywhere between the first and third summer month of planting. It can even take longer in cold months; you will have to ensure the pots gets some warmth and receive enough light.

However, one of the most well-known sources of saponins resides in the drupes of the Sapindus tree, more commonly known as

Soap nut powder can be mixed with water when needed providing a longer shelf-life. Additionally, mixing it with water can make for a great abrasive cleaner - for example as a carpet cleaner to remove stains. Soapnuts are safe for septic tanks and gray water systems. Even when the water enters the sewage system, soapnuts naturally biodegrade as they contain no synthetic chemicals, fragrances, foaming agents or other polluting toxins. The water from the washing machine can also be collected and used to water the garden – helping to deter pests.

Here’s everything you need to know about soap nuts; the incredible green-cleaning alternative to chemical-laden detergents and cleaning products. The indigo is great value too and we have now added some options for small amounts of indigo on the Soapnut menu so you can by both at once. The next morning when I went to gather the clean laundry, everything was clean and didn’t smell like anything. (Except for the smell of the previous owners’ fabric softener. Lydia doesn’t own a single article of new clothing, thanks to two thrift stores within walking distance of our home and some generous friends. Consequently, her laundry contains a multitude of fragrances. Fabric softener scents take several washes to erase, I’ve found. They’re WAY harder to eliminate than diaper stink).
