About this deal

The focus ring is nicely damped, and racks from close-focus to infinity in a little over a quarter of a turn. If you use the lens on older Olympus bodies that can’t correct lateral chromatic aberration, you’ll also see minor green and magenta fringing towards the edges of the frame, but again it’s not very objectionable. It will be very interesting to see how the modern equivalent fills the same niche for current MFT cameras. Spherical aberration has been controlled throughout the range of focal lengths to eliminate compensation of changes in back focus with aperture.

In fact, we found ourselves wishing we had a second copy of the lens with which to shoot our DPReview TV footage, which you'll find towards the end of this page below. Whatever your subject, discover what this lens’s depth of field control can do for your photography. You're not really going to get big bokeh balls unless you're shooting wide-open and near to the 25mm telephoto, so if they're what you're looking for, opt for a lens with a stronger telephoto and/or a wider aperture with a more uniform circle-of-confusion. Portability without compromising creativity is a key selling point of the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) camera standard that was announced in 2008 by two major imaging brands, Olympus (now OM Digital Solutions) and Panasonic.Together with the 50mm focal distance (35mm camera equivalent) which is almost the same viewing angle and sense of perspective of human eyes, this lens is ideal for a portraits or scenery as they see. The biggest highlight of this lens, and probably the reason why a lot of people would choose this over other budget 25mm primes for Micro Four Thirds - the Autofocus ability of the lens. We've been using a full production version of this 120 fps sports camera, to see what you gain (and, perhaps, lose). However, the Olympus' lens bests it not just in terms of wide-angle coverage, but also in its macro capabilities. It also includes one ultra-high refractive index glass element and two aspherical elements, which are designed to minimise chromatic aberration and peripheral aberrations.

All of these offer their own particular features, but as an inexpensive and high quality standard lens for MFT the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1. Construction is 8 elements in 7 groups, two of these being aspherical and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index). The actual difference between lenses can be obvious when compared side by side with another lens, but likely as not when viewed in isolation will look perfectly satisfactory.
