About this deal

In the unlikely event of any broken glass we would recommend to leave the broken glass in the box and only extract those bottles that are undamaged. Lyme Bay Winery is located in Devon’s beautiful Axe Valley and it is here that they combine their knowledge and love of flavours and ingredients to craft their award-winning drinks. Please do not attempt to enter this web site if you are not above the legal age of drinking alcohol in your country of residence. Botrytised wines such as Sauternes, Tokaji and German beerenauslese and trockenbeerenauslese tend to have flavours of candied citrus fruit peel, peaches and pineapple, with notes of butterscotch, vanilla and sometimes coconut. Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese are the sweetest styles of German Riesling you can get made from shrivelled, noble rot affected grapes.

Perfect for the lead up to Christmas or for enjoying on the day, this festive wine will make a wonderful gift or treat. Crisp, fragrant and full of fruity flavours, Sparkling Moscato (the Italian name for Muscat Blanc) is a great texture contrast with rich Christmas Pudding. It should be Extra Dry Prosecco which is a bit of a misnomer as Extra Dry is actually slightly sweeter than Brut (which is the normal level of sweetness of most of the Champagne that we drink here in the UK). Cut pudding into thin slices, place in a bucket, pour 5 pints of boiled water, whilst still hot and stir. Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Be careful with this step, the water is boiling and over enthusiastic mashing will cause splashes of hot liquid! In this blog post I give some suggestions for wines to drink with Christmas Pudding, other Christmas desserts and cheese. Nobody does it like the French when it comes to Sémillon-based dessert wines, so look to the subregions of Bordeaux – The Château du Seuil Cerons and Château Gravas Sauternes are both sensational options, and also match wonderfully with creamy desserts like crème brûlée, and apple tarts. You may be surprised that white wines feature prominently in this section but white wine doesn’t have the tannins that clash with the saltiness of many cheeses.

The combination of the nutty flavours of the port match perfectly with the dried fruits and nuts of mince pies (and Christmas Pudding). As a general rule of thumb, the wine can be slightly sweeter than the dessert (the other way around can make the wine appear to taste bitter) – but, as these wines tend to be at the top of the sweetness scale, they can handle pretty sugary desserts. Once your kitchen has filled with a Christmas aroma that will make you sing jingle bells, our the must into your sterilised fermentation bucket, top up with water to just over 2 gallons, and allow to cool before pitching in the yeast. This recipe will give you a festive tasting desert wine that will go fabulously with your festive cheeseboard, with only 3 ingredients it is suitable for the beginner brewer and will impress your guests! The key is to think about how sweet your dessert is and make sure that you go for a wine which is slightly sweeter, to keep those flavours in balance. Your go-to Christmas pudding wine here is a fortified wine such as a Port or a Pedro Ximinéz Sherry. Don’t overwhelm – Steer clear of very tannic reds, as they have a tendency to pick a flavour fight with puddings and desserts. The different ways in which these wines are produced give a myriad different flavours ranging from candied citrus fruits and grapes, butterscotch and caramel, through to dried fruits such as dates and figs and nuts.
