About this deal

With its 32cm width, this machine is best-suited for small- to medium-sized gardens. That said, it could still handle a larger lawn too, it would just take longer than if you were to use a scarifier with a wider body (such as the AL-KO). The four scarifying depth settings make it even more versatile, and the fact that there’s just a single handle that you need to move to adjust the height definitely works in this product’s favour. Let’s start with assembly – something that I never really enjoy doing. This Hyundai needed a little more work than the other models I tested. Assembly took about 30 minutes in total. This isn’t a huge amount of time, but keep in mind that I have a fair bit of experience assembling scarifiers. For someone who has never done this before, it’ll likely take much longer, especially considering that the instruction manual was very little help. Now on to how to use this scarifier. It looks like a regular rake but on wheels, so it’s very simple. When you push it forwards it uses a pendulum action to lift the teeth or tines off the lawn, and when you pull it towards you the pendulum action lowers the tines into the lawn and removes the moss and thatch from the lawn. This scarifier leaves all this debris in a small pile of moss and thatch for you collect later (just like a regular rake does).

This is another mid-budget electric scarifier and aerator that offers a lot of value, given what it costs. Manual scarifiers. These are the most simple type of scarifier. You basically get two wheels, the lawn scarifying blades, and a long handle. Then you just push to rake your lawn. A manual lawn scarifier is great if you want a basic, inexpensive, hassle-free way of making your lawn look nicer. For small lawns and medium sized gardens, they’re great. However, they will take a long time to scarify large lawns, and they require a decent amount of effort to use – especially since they’re often quite small (and don’t scarify much ground with each pass). Firstly, I think about the power source of the lawn scarifier. There are three main o The Darlac Lawn Scarifier is a cheaper alternative to the Wolf Garten model if you really want to spend the minimal amount on a lawn scarifier. ProsPetrol scarifiers. If your lawn is larger than 100 square metres, you might want to invest in a petrol scarifier. Although they’re quite expensive, and can be a little noisy, they’re the best lawn scarifier, especially if you’re looking for maximum efficiency. These options aren’t the best lawn scarifier for beginners, but if you know your stuff, they can’t be beaten. Working depths: 4mm to -4mm; -8mm to -12mm mm for the scarifier roller; 11mm to 3mm to -1mm to -5mm for the aerator roller.

The main takeaway from testing this machine is that it’s the best lawn scarifier to buy on a budget. However,if you also need an effective aerator, you may need to look elsewhere. The Hyundai 1800W lawn scarifier is an electric model that competes with the VonHaus 2 in 1 in several aspects. While both products feature scarifying capabilities, the Hyundai 1800W boasts a more powerful 1800W motor compared to the VonHaus 2 in 1’s dual-purpose scarifying and aerating functionality. The Hyundai 1800W has a slightly larger working width of 38 cm and offers 5 adjustable scarifying heights, similar to the Hyundai 1500W. The AL-KO 38P Combe-Care 2 in 1 Scarifier is a petrol-powered dual-function scarifier and aerator, powered by a 53cc engine. It’s designed for medium and larger sized gardens if trailing around the cable of an electric model would not be suitable or you simply need a larger and more powerful model. The AL-KO 38P Combi-Care is smaller than the Cobra model but is still adequate for lawns up to 1200m2 in size according to the manufacturer. This is our favoured option, even for small lawns. A powered scarifier and lawn rake will simply get the job done faster. Petrol Scarifiers Manual hollow tine – look out for strong, solid tines that will cope with compacted turf, a decent tread to prevent your foot from slipping, and a soft-grip handle for comfort. Finally, I find it’s quite a compact machine and can be stored on a shelf. The folding handles and two-piece collection box fold down so that the unit is only 40cm tall. I usually do this over winter when it’s not going to be used until spring. Pros

Chris advises you mow your lawn a week beforescarifyingit. He said: “This will help to prepare your grass and will also help to remove any excess grass length and chop up any thatch patches, leaving yourscarifyingjob much easier.” It is powered by an easy to start 212cc 4-stroke engine which provides enough power for fast and efficient lawn raking and de-thatching. When it comes to finding the best lawn scarifier, the more teeth the better! The teeth do exactly what you’d expect – pierce down into the lawn aerating it and collecting debris. Start by tearing up the thatch by combing through the grass, carefully covering every area of your lawn. Electric lawn scarifiers are quiet, lightweight and cost effective. They are great to use on small to medium lawns. Electric scarfiers do a great job of hauling the moss and thatch from your grass with minimal effort on your part. They won’t need re-filling like a petrol scarifier either. However, they’re not always as powerful as petrol scarifiers and you may find yourself restricted by the cord length.Value for Money: I compared the features, performance, and price point of each scarifier and rated their value for money accordingly.
