About this deal

This March 1989 compilation is something of a mish-mash and documents the changing music scene in the UK in the late 1980s with Yazz, S’Express, Inner City, Tone Loc and Neneh Cherry representing a new wave of artists which could be loosely grouped in the dance/hip-hop/house/acid house genres. Read more about the condition New: An item that is still in its original shrink wrap from the manufacturer and the original manufacturer’s seal (if applicable) has not been removed. The album spent a record 13 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, the most for any multi-artist compilation album since 1963.

If everything goes to schedule, Now 120 will arrive in March 2025, with Now 200 due in time for Christmas 2051. Virgin Records' owner Richard Branson had given it to his cousin and the company's co-founder Simon Draper several years earlier, and it hung behind his desk at the label's offices.

We actually stuck the number 12 to the bottom of a swimming pool, painted some polystyrene balls with the Now logo and had a photographer take a photo that would become the cover," said artwork designer Neal Martinez. That's why each of our records is first meticulously cleaned and then not just inspected once, but twice, before a sample is play-tested to make sure it sounds as good as it looks. More recently, two cover versions of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car have appeared on different albums, the first by Jonas Blue on Now 93; and the second by Luke Combs on Now 116.

Climie Fisher, Brother Beyond and Level 42 deliver some hits from the second tier while Duran Duran have their last top 10 single of the 1980s with the club-oriented ‘All She Wants Is’. AI hasn't had a record played at a funeral, AI doesn't know what song was playing when you walked down the aisle. Blow the House Down' appears as a slightly longer edit, inserting an extra bar at 1'36" which isn't there in the video or 7" version; 'Straight Up' uses completely the wrong edit, halving the intro and the 'do do you love me' break but with a longer outro than the 1989 edit; 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' reverts to the correct single version rather than the shorter edit used on the 1989 NOW 14; 'Belfast Child' remains in its shorter promo edit version; and the version of 'Be My Twin' presented here is a slightly different mix to the 1989 single (but it's slightly too long to be the album version). Matt Lucas's NHS fundraising track Thank You Baked Potato also appears on Now 105, lasting a brisk 1 minute and 04 seconds). If compilation albums were included in list of the UK's best-selling records, it would take ninth place, nestling between Michael Jackson's Bad and Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms. The 48th volume even became a pivotal plot point in an episode of Peter Kay's Car Share, when supermarket employee Kayleigh Kitson (Sian Gibson) declared it was her favourite album.

With record labels reluctant to give approval to the new format, it ended up as a single disc containing only 15 songs. By contrast, Now was a joint venture between two of the UK's biggest record labels, EMI and Virgin, giving compilers immediate access to the day's biggest songs. DJ Mark Goodier, who has voiced adverts for the Now series since 1992, says it still has a place in the market. The 116th edition has just been released, opening with Sam Smith and Calvin Harris's dance smash Desire, before rattling through Olivia Rodrigo's Vampire and Doja Cat's Paint The Town Red.According to EMI executive Barry McCann, the label was concerned that people would think that double digits would make the series seem outdated, as no compilation series had run that long. Captain Sir Tom Moore is the oldest singer to feature on the compilation, having reached his 100th birthday when he sang alongside Michael Ball on the charity cover version of You'll Never Walk Alone (Now 106). Michael Jackson has only appeared twice: On Now 4, with the drippy 1970s ballad Farewell My Summer Love, and again on Now 88 with the posthumous single Love Never Felt So Good. CD 's play ok good quality track book front cover missing still ok,case is not in brilliant condition signs off damage but not a bad purchase.
