Kuku's writing style is delightfully irreverent, and he fearlessly tackles taboo subjects with a touch of satire.

This is collection of short stories, some of which were funny, some were not so funny, and a couple of sad ones in between. I also found it amusing how you can pretty much replace Lagos with Lilongwe and the message remains the same. With these stories set within Lagos, the author employs a lot of complex sentences and overly sexual content to prove his point. Before picking up this book, I'd already known that Lagos men are really not okay in the head 😂 These stories (fictional, yes yes, I know) just confirm that.

It takes two to tango and since there was a third party in the marriage, Lisa should have been pregnant if he was so ‘fertile. Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad underscores with wit, humour, wisdom and sensitivity, the perils of trying to find lasting love and companionship in Africa's most notorious city. The stereotype of pointing fingers at the woman as being responsible for infertility in marriages finds its way into this novel as well. Even the story featuring gay men follows the same pattern: man and woman fall in 'like' and enter what the woman thinks is a monogamous relationship. Worthy of note is that the lady in the story is another exception to women possessing these madness-propelling characters. When I first started this book, I saw a review that criticized the author's use of 'Nigerian English' and I thought the person was, well, silly.

Femi is not the only male character who is dubious, there is the male protagonist in ‘Just the Tip’ who cheats on his partner with her best friend just because she wouldn’t have sex with him outside the confines of marriage. It is a result of a culture of convoluted traditional ideals desperately seeking to find a place for itself in the global, "Western" cultural scene. The victim card is also whipped out when Emmanuel tells his Uche he still loves her but finds out she has blocked him. Meeting him again must have brought back the memory of the seemingly pedophile act that closed her off to having anything to do with him as an adult.

This book depicts the hazards of attempting to find enduring love and friendship in Africa's wildest metropolis with humour, wisdom, and empathy that will prove universal and informative.
