Those fantasies which did not have any outright turnoffs were much too short for me to work up much of a hot and bother (something Nancy explains is normal since men don't take nearly as long to get there, or stay there as long one they've arrived).No man in this book says, "My wife likes this, so I often fantasize about it because I love how much pleasure it brings her," while very many men say, "I wish my wife would like this" or "I wish my wife would do this. NANCY FRIDAY is the author of eight books: MY SECRET GARDEN, FORBIDDEN FLOWERS, JEALOUSY, MEN IN LOVE, MY MOTHER/MY SELF, WOMEN ON TOP, THE POWER OF BEAUTY and OUR LOOKS, OUR LIVES.Without the Freudian commentary the book as a series of fantasies written by men would have been fascinating, it's a shame that it missed the boat. As we grow older, become socialized, and develop identity, the satisfactions we pursue become more specific. While I did not like the sex itself, the attitudes towards women were surprisingly adoring and sympathetic; it was almost therapeutic to read after the scads of misogynistic men's thought I've had the displeasure of encountering online. Constant use of the C-word (though used to describe the vulva, not as an epithet for women) among a few other vulgarities.

It sounds as though she is making excuses for why some of the men think the way they do and I'm not sure if there has to be an answer to everything. Quite the opposite of feeling there was anything angry or resentful towards women in (almost all of) these fantasies, it was surprising and wonderful to me to see that, at least in this sampling, men's sexual fantasies are very very focused on women's enthusiastic consent and on women deriving maximum pleasure from sex, literally as much pleasure as the man can imagine. A guy might get off on these fantasies, but personally reading the stories was not something I found to be a turn-on. If people could begin to look at their sexual fantasies as easily as they accept their night dreams, we’d all be a lot healthier about our sexual identities. This is nothing less than an anthology of sexual baggage and my hat is off to the men who wrote in with such honesty and courage.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

However, given the total lack of individuality of anyone in these fantasies beyond the men themselves, it could also be argued that the men in this book value pleasing women only superficially: only as long as the women are their automata, existing only on the man's terms and not their own, doing exactly what he wants and liking it.Having this unconsciously remembered evidence of mother’s warmth and reassurance with him, he is encouraged to go forward into sexual pleasures. My only reason for missing out on the five star mark is because I didn't manage to read the whole book as I was in a rush to lend it out and because not all of Miss Friday's psychoanalysis sounds believable, often I get the feeling she ought to have just written . The amount of real-life infidelity among the men sharing these fantasies, and the casualness with which it was mentioned, was insane.
