About this deal

Based on Twattingham's career in stand-up comedy, I'm starting to think, nay, hope that this book is just one loooong elaborate joke. Keeping a character's motives hidden in a crime novel isn't anything new, but when it goes on for so long and then the crime happens. Mark Billingham has been a long-time favorite author of mine but I hadn't red anything by him in quiet some time, so I was glad to find this one while browsing the library. Although she’s just about to give birth, she doesn’t hesitate to follow the truth, even when that leads her into the grimiest and most dangerous neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, local DI Tim Cornish is under pressure to close the case and is keen to pin the crime on Linda's husband, Stephen.Best known for his Tom Thorne series, Billingham has done an excellent job in his first standalone work. Too many plot lines were set up to be resolved by the end of the 2nd episode without leaving the audience feeling cheated and a bit confused. Weeks is played to perfection by the ever-excellent Swedish actress, the feline-looking MyAnna Buring ( Ripper Street, The Twilight Saga, Kill List). If you are the publisher or author and feel that they do not properly reflect the range of media opinion now available, send us a message with the mainstream reviews that you would like to see added.

That is until they start asking some particularly awkward questions of the man running the case, a senior officer from Helen and Paul’s past played with smug aplomb by Top Boy actor Ashley Walters. And it’s a revelation that puts Helen on a path with Manchester crime boss Frank Linnell once again. However enjoyable King has been so far, comic relief would have been more than a little jarring here. It was mentioned in the description on the back, and in three blurbs on the front and back cover alone. The hugely acclaimed latest novel in Mark Billingham's bestselling series, Love Like Blood , is out now. A television series based on the Thorne novels was screened in Autumn 2010, starring David Morrissey as Tom Thorne and a BBC series based on the standalone thrillers IN THE DARK and TIME OF DEATH was shown in 2017.

While an investigation into a murdered teenager might not exactly be cause for celebration – on the surface of things – Weeks should be happy. However I was surprised to be drawn into the story very quickly and as a Mum, found it a refreshing approach to this type of story to have a pregnant woman as the main character, for me it was unusual but worked. For the first hundred pages, we're introduced to a bunch of characters and their lives before the crime in question. I knew this because the marketing for the book had been heavily focusing on conveying to would be readers about this final twist. Gritty, fierce, and moving, here is a must-read for anyone who likes their crime fiction unflinching—and unforgettable. The novel's opening is disrespectful to the reader by introducing a mystery, then waiting a long, long while till the story spins back towards that mystery. Now that he’s sold enough drugs to support a girlfriend and a baby son, his mate Easy Dennison offers him a boost up the next rung of the ladder.
